No Local Capping

You guys are starting all sorts of rumours which arent true. I have spoken to a few representatives of Telkom and they have said outright that there is NO capping of local traffic from the 1st of November on 3GB accounts.

PS. Dont believe me? email PotgieH2@telkom.co.za and speak to Herman Potgieter.

If this happens 1st November in the face of the ICASA findings Telkom can go and **** themselves!

Somebody said it so well in a signature on the forum...

"Telkom... SA's handbrake to progress!"

Critical Importance

CALL FOR ACTION!!
I think it is imperative that every MyADSL member gets behind a vociferous and unambiguous and extremely forceful complaint to ICASA ahead of this Telkom action taking effect.

What I propose is this:
1. We write a formal complaint to ICASA on behalf of all forum members.
2. Each and every forum member downloads a statement off this forum, fills it in and faxes it to ICASA, the statement is a formal rejection of Telkom's proposed pricing and service model.
3. We call for a public hearing
4. We call for ICASA to reject the application for the pricing model
5. We do this now!!!!! Before the SNO becomes operational - once the SNO becomes operational, Telkom will say they arent manipulating their monopoly
6. Each and every forum member downloads a second form from this site fills it in and faxes it to The President rejecting out of hand the proposed pricing structure and the restrictions placed on the telecomms industry by Telkom. We make our call for action heard at the highest level of government
7. Every forum member downloads a third form from this site, fills it in and faxes it to the President calling for the immediate removal of Minister Cassaburi from office
8. Every forum member downloads a fourth form from this site and fills it in and faxes it to the Freedom of Expression Institute FXI giving our support to their efforts and calling for nationwide action.
9. Every forum member recruits at least 10 new forum members each immediately from Small and medium business, Financial Control Officers of large corporates, CEO's, Executive Officers, man in the street whatever. We up the ante and grow our forum by 10x overnight.
10. We prepare a press release and releas it to the countries media - we use an agency to do this for us if necesary. We use our war chest to finance it if we have to. We HAVE TO STAND UP AND BE HEARD.

THE MANIPULATION OF THE PUBLIC IS NEVER GOING TO END UNTIL WE STAND UP AND MAKE OUR VOICES BE HEARD!!!

I have spoken to no less than five people at Telkom and they have assured me that capping on local traffic will not occur from 1 November 2005.

Perhaps its a case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing.

I myself will be highly disappointed if local is capped and WILL immediately cancel my ADSL line... thats if its installed by then! Ive been waiting close on 3 months now :\

Local capping is of little or no importance for me once international is capped then the connection is instantly rendered useless.

Telkom is obviously trying to con the the low use dial up user. Crunching the numbers for my in-laws revealed its still not financially advantageous for them to switch to adsl. They've been so dazzled by this telkom ad campaign that they almost ignored the fact that they'd be spending more for something they dont need.

If telkom is going to peruse the punitively high priced per gb model I'm going to have to cancel adsl and go back to dial up.

The only problem with going back to dial-up is the huge expense for local calls during the day. It works out to around R25 per hour between 7AM and 7PM during the week.

Its as if we have been forced between a rock and a hard place... something has to give way soon.

So much for this being the African century. If anything, we are going backwards.

Highly enraged!!!

I'm very tempted to cuss and loose my cool on this "punitively high priced per gb model" (like bwana said) - because that's exactly what it is.

PEAPOD let's do it. I stay in Hermanus, and I will personally go to ALL the internet cafe's and everyone I know that has ADSL and organize them to fax their complaints to the ICASA and the president. I will even get the internet cafes and companies to sponsor an advertisement in the local paper (if they'll allow me to publish it) informing the ADSL users and public on Telkom's proposed billing system.

This is utter crap, I WILL HAVE to CANCEL my ADSL, as I won't be able to afford it anymore. I'm a web developer and I need broadband access since I work for a small company in the U.S. I will have to move to Cape Town and get iBurst or MyWireless since it's not offered in my area yet.

We don't have a TV in our apartment, but choose rather to stream TV. So according to Telkom's logic, I'm abusing the network - utter crap! This is one of the reasons why broadband was created: streaming audio/video. NO FLIPPIN' OTHER COUNTRY IN THE WORLD (YES NO FLIPPIN' COUNTRY) charges users on a per GB system. Caps that are in place in some countries (15-30GB caps) are charged according to the flat rate for using ADSL. This is ridiculous, absurb, unreasonable. Any company that says this is a good idea is blacklisted in my books as far as I'm concerned; and I will make a point of mentioning their names in any telecom conversations I have with collegues and peers.

Telkom promoted ISDN a while back with a FICTICIOUS ad that ASA (advertising standards authority) forced them to withdraw on grounds of false advertising. You guys all probably know what I'm talking about. They had an actor play a doctor who was doing surgery on a patient in Tanzania over an ISDN line. UTTER ........!!! Imagine doing this kind of thing on a per GB billing system!!!!!!!!

Telkom is truely SA's handbrake (mentioned by one of the previous users). They ARE ruining technological development in this country!

Anyways, I've finished venting for now (for now!). Might be a good idea to contact Rudolph and getting something setup on the home page or maybe in headers or footers in the forums with a link to information on this and action for us ADSL users to take.
Peapod especially the forms you suggested be created for faxing to ICASA and the president. We could have the fax numbers included and these documents on the site somewhere.
