Hi

I recently got the Telkom 1Mbps Uncapped 3 Month Trial promotion.

Speed tests have been shocking. Download ~ 0.32Mbps, and Upload ~0.42Mbps.

Telkom have not been any help so far.

Could they have limited my download speeds from inception?
Surely this promotion is to entice me to carry on using Telkom afterwards.
Currently I want nothing to do with them, seems a bit stupid of them if that is the case.
Otherwise I am just dealing with the incompetence of Telkom.

Anyone experiencing similar problems?

What time did you run the test? There are speed limits at certain times of the day.

They say that during the day thry throttle your line to round about that much so yes thst what you should expect during the day.

Why on earth did you not go with mweb or afrihost(there are more) as the others are not only better but cheaper?

Went with Telkom because it is free for 3 months, and was going to reevaluate afterwards.

I have tested at all times. During the week and weekend (morning, afternoon, evening, late at night).

got the special as well and notice that when i download any torrents my browsing is unavailable. that's weird for me cos when i had my previous line i used to be able to browse the net while simultaneously downloading torrents. not too sure whats happening with this product but looks like i wont keep the line if this keeps up

Just seems like Telkom are shooting themselves in the foot if they limit our speeds.

Have friends with 1Mbps Mweb accounts and their download speeds are 3x faster, in a similar area.

Does Telkom ever read this forum, or do they not even care about their customers because of the monopoly they have?

I have the 1m uncapped from Telkom and am getting full speed all the time. Maybe I'm just lucky.

That's a bit of a silly comment.

They advertise a product with the intention of attracting new business. It was perfect for me to try out because I couldn't decide between ADSL and a Mobile Broadband product.
Offering a product that is of a lower quality than it should be (granted, maybe that's not what they are doing) can only be harmful for their business.

Don't forget that unlike MWeb uncapped there is no shaping performed by Telkom on these accounts so QOS is up to you.

Try setting and enabling temporary speed limits in your torrent client when you want to browse.

How come I always only see around 100kbps? And I'm on the uncappe 1Mb line thing as well.

You only pay the R149 line rental. The rest is absolutely free.

I registered for it today:

The screenshot I have says free Line and Free DSL Installation, including Free Subscription to the Fast Uncapped Service.

Will Telkom install the Line if I don't have an existing Line? (would seem so from the Screenshot).
Also, how long does this whole process usually take?

Thanks,
tera

I actually got a cal from Telkom at 11. I need to give them a few details and here's hoping I can have the line installed in where I live (a bit rural, lol). Line rental is R139 per month for the 3 months, I'll ask what the cost is after the 3 months.

I'm getting a free Wifi Router as well :p ;) :D Yay!
