Telkom 40Mbps broadband on the horizon

I will jump in and say this before someone else:
Improve your current offering stability - and Im there all the way for you. '

I can't even get 10meg yet. Telkom really another product slot. 3 just isn't enough.

in before telkom pulls a cellc and says "oh, 40mbit is the theoretical speed of the DSLAM, lol"

HaHa, how are they going to do this, when they can't even provide a stable network for the lower speed customers?

Oh, right... they are going to upgrade 1% of the network and then claim they they have a "world class network"

Bunch of losers.

Wonder if the line rental prices will drop at all.

Watch them only give the top end speeds to VOD customers ;)

Oh wow, this is a clear sign to me that the management are superstitious, thye cleary believe in the Mayan Calender and that the world is going to end in the 2012, that's the only logical explanation why Telkom is claiming they going toupgrade the 384 users

Four years is a long time. By then the rest of the world will have moved on. No wait. They already have moved on :p

I had a perfectly-functioning 10Mb line.

That was, until Telkom upgraded the Parkview exchange and reduced my line speed to 6Mb ...

There is another possible explanation: by 2015 Telkom will have closed down ... :)

2015? really? really?

My thoughts exactly. The rest of the world has had those speeds for quite a few years already. They're using 100Mbit/1Gbit connections and we can get 40% of that, 4 years from now. What a phucking phail as usual.

I look forward to seeing the new product range. Nov 2011 has <6 working days left, so this should be soon.

First and foremost, please let's move that horrendous rut in the road of a 384 kbps baseline (with the anachronistic 64kbps upload speeds) which has attracted so many dozens of customers and fed it's own ecosystem of 'special's from ISPs. Bring the baseline in at 2mbps (1 mbps if you have to) but get everyone onto real broadband please). Believe me, everyone will benefit from the increase in productivity and stimulation of the industry from that one act alone.

My only worry is that if exchanges are already getting congested, then they could well collapse in a heap with more traffic. This would be especially hard hitting on the voip industry, which relies on the consistency of the line more than just the bandwidth for quality voice.

LMFAO!!! Thats what I think, they can't even offer me 4MB without constant spikes and packet drops. look at this tested today on a "supposed" 4MB line :

IS ADSL Local Speed Test to Internet Solutions Rosebank Data Centre
Please wait testing speed now...
Start Time: 12:34:39
End time: 12:34:47
IP Address: 196.215.5.239
Download Size: 409600 bytes
Time Delta: 8.1009910106659 seconds
Download Speed: 49 KBytes/s
Line Speed: 392 kbits/s

Now you tell me whats the point in paying for 4MB and getting this rubbish service where as other people pay the same rate and get 10MB? I will laugh in ANYONES face that tries to sell a 40MB line to me.
