Hi.

This has been happening for awhile now, Ive got a 4mbps Telkom capped Account (40GB) and yet im getting throttled/Shaped on torrents from around 8am-10pm, which should never happen cause its a capped account, Since only uncapped accounts should get throttled/shaped. Is there any reasoning for them to do this? or must I call there stupid call centre to ask them why? My torrents are not even moving anyway, it goes like 2kbps. Its really annoying when im downloading something and it takes hours/days to download.

I suspect it has something to do with their line upgrades as my torrents are shocking (I'm on uncapped) even on weekends and late at night.

I'm experiencing similar issues. Probably has something to do with the upgrades taking place.

P2P Traffic is hurting ISP's worldwide. The nature of P2P traffic, with connections to multiple peers all streaming constant data, clogs their pipes and hinders normal HTTP traffic.

Try the Usenet, utilise the night surfer hours (12am till 6am) for torrents, and / or just accept that the torrent model is pretty much doomed.

Torrent traffic is at the bottom of any ISP's priority list. Sad, but so.

a while back i was checking out telkom's capped offerings on the website. pretty sure all of them said shaped. cant check now OP but it would be worth your while to check that website. i couldnt understand at the time since capped data is usually unshaped.

AFAIK they always were. When I first got ADSL nearly 10 years ago I had to look up what "shaping" meant 'cos I'd seen it in telkoms T & C's at the time.

Yup Grouter is correct. My 1GB account was shaped when I first got ADSL...forgot when that was, but yes. Always been shaped. One thing is for sure though, when ever I've used a Telkom account for browsing and such it's always more responsive than my IS account...so I guess they do something right. If you want fast torrents for capped go for Afrihost or OpenWeb capped - well I would choose one of those. Telkom users seem to say NNTP does very well at any time of the day - so give that a try. I've never used it so can't comment.

Yeah, one of my accounts is an Afrihost capped account, and it works fine during all hours.

Got the same and got 0 problems with torrents and getting 435 kb/s depending on the seeds ratio.

So it is after 1:00 in middle of the night. Torrenting with a 20GB+20GB capped TI account results in speeds less than 10KBps. Switching to a free Afrihost account let that very same torrent download at 600KBps.

Why on earth do Telkom need to shape traffic this badly, on a capped account, in the middle of the night? This results in a situation where I'm not even able to use the allocated data.
