512K to 1024K upgrade is only a rumour... doubt if telkom would...

Why would you even think telkom would do this?

Dont think Telkom would. We all know how the 4mB upgrade has strained the network......on IS especially... :( nope. Telkom is like one of those "friends" everyone has...the one that will only do something for you if they get something out of it. The fight against Telkomism is starting to take shape ( just like their ports :)). Hurry up Neotel...SOS :D

That's just a fluctuation on your line, I wouldn't get my hopes up about it...

Unless of course it is constant, in which case lucky you.

Whats your SNR and attenuation?

My 384k line has been fluctuating. I've run a few speed tests, and quite a few of them have been above 400kbps. But then most have been normal...

Probably a problem with Telkom's line speed determining system. :p

I have a 384 line but get the following speed test results:
"Your line speed is approximately 494.5 Kbps or 60.6 kBytes/sec"
It's much faster than the speed test results I usually get, which is normally around 40KBytes/sec.
However, when I monitor the download speed with NetMeter, then it still shows around 40Kbytes/sec, even though the Telkom speedtest says 60Kb/sec. So I assume there's a problem with their speed test calculation script/page.

That would explain whats happening at my work then !

About half the time Im browsing around or downloading little 20 or 50 MB files , certain servers just seem to give us 400KB/s , for the last few days now.

Its not constant though , so on one site Ill get 400KB/s , and another Ill get normal 50KB/s or so ... its really weird.

Also test your connection speed with the local GamCo Bandwidth Meter site:
http://www4.gam.co.za/connectivity/bandwidth.php
I got the normal results expected from my 384 line.
The Telkom speed test page still gives a much higher unrealistic test result (400Kbps+) so It looks like I'll be using the GamCo Bandwidth Meter from now on to test locally.
Telkom's speed test site is just giving you higher results to make you feel good. ;)

Sorry Guys....
Don't wanna let u all lose hope but the speed increase in just temporary
When i dload i get every 1 hour or so a speed increase to 60 kbps (i am on 384) for about ten seconds. And telkom's speedtest is crappy, makes you think your line is running at 48 kbps with of course it is actually running at 40-42

Best way to see your download speed is get something like netlimiter and download a large file. Then you will see your proper speed. Those speed test pages suck, especially on 4mbit...
