Telkom 5G price shocker — demolished by Rain and MTN

Telkom's uncapped fixed-5G packages are much more expensive than rival services offered by Rain, MTN, and several other ISPs.

The telecoms company recently published coverage and prices for its first uncapped fixed-5G products, which are only available on contracts over 24 or 36 months.

Telkom at R1300 pm with limits (and contract). No thanks. Happy with my Rain R999 month to month, no limit!

Looking at their pathetic 5G coverage, it looks like they only launched 5G for marketing reasons, just to say that they support 5G.

Maybe 5G uptake is painfully slow in this country and Telkom found it's not worth the investment to have a wider coverage.

Highest prices + worst FUP. It's almost like they think they still have a monopoly

Rain is great if you get the router aligned to a decent signal. For some months. After round 8 months the trouble starts. Loooow speeds of no speed regularly. Specially weekends. Then a fight over the phone and social media for round two weeks to sort out the problems. Then it's great again for say 8 months. Repeat fight etc.

Can tell you now Telkom will say it's because of Gov Regulation their FUP, ICASA & all sorts of crap. Seems they are late always late implementing anything in SA. Bunch of wankers. Had shite with them even before I left SA.

Yea.. I know some people struggle with RAIN. Luckily... I'm not. I can't complain .

When I had rain it was good for a few months, and then it went to crap. Struggled to even get 1mbps. For months on end, where they were perfectly happy to take my money while providing no service.

It's time to stop differentiating between LTE and 5g. I'd take 100mbps LTE-A over 50mbps 5g.
I think the key difference is latency. For gaming, I would take the 50Mbps 5G over the 100Mbps LTE-A.

But then of course there's Fibre which fills that void where available.
