Hi there

Does 8ta throttle connections at specific times ... eg over weekends.

I have a client who uses an 8ta 3G dongle and he seems to loose connection on Friday evenings and get reconnected every Sunday evening.

It has done this the last 2-3 weekends. He then has no internet or emails or ability to communicate via Voip Phone or skype over the weekend.

Seems like the connection is been given a lower priority.

Any suggestions ? :confused::confused:

The 3G connection miraculously came back to life Monday evening 10 PM. ??

After being offline since Friday 6 PM.

This after the client phoned Telkom during the day and complained.

All working fine now ... ??

I haven't noticed it actually going offline, but where I live the TM signal very often appears to throttle down over the weekends, to the extent that it is sometimes unusable until Monday. Really irritating!

I'm thinking....maybe, just maybe, there might be other people who also want to download stuff and use the internet? :p

kingrob, my 8ta connection has been stable for over 2 years, download speeds of between 600K and 900K per second on most nights and week-ends, until mid December last year. Now I'm lucky to get an Internet connection at all, day or night. If I use a different sim from another network then I'm good to go again.
WAIT!!, 8ta must have signed up everyone in Randburg over Christmas and that's why my speeds are pathetic, or non existant. Thanks for your wonderful insight, now I can sleep at night. You're a Legend!

You said it throttles down over weekends, and then I said its weekend and people want to download stuff.

Now you are saying something else?

It must be form of 'load shedding' on the TM Network, i have the same problem once a week the signal disappears completely and then it's back the next day....

Read my post, it's in plain English. I said on most nights and week-ends. I do not download every night. I also said I am lucky to get an Internet connection at all, DAY OR NIGHT. Are we on the same page now? If I swap the sim in my E1820 to another network then I can get an Internet connection almost instantly, which kind of rules out issues with my modem and wireless router. Stick back the 8ta sim and you battle, it's intermittent. Pop the E1820 into my laptop or desktop, use that nice pink and black dashboard, the signal goes from HSPA to WCDMA to EDGE in 30 seconds. I bought a new Sim Sonke sim and loaded the 2G + 1G, popped that in and had the same issues, so it is the Telkom Network. Tower 65502. 8ta Ref No: 7379526. Reported 14th Jan this year.

Telkom Mobile, the only place you can be gainfully employed on help desk or a technician whilst in a coma.

Sorry kingrob, I came back to edit this, I don't mean to be harsh but am a bit frustrated, I've been in IT for over 30 years and understand the "hosepipe" analogy. If too many people use the same hosepipe, you eventually get down to a trickle. I wish it were so simple.

Telkon (misspelt purposely) arrived on Saturday, 26 days after my complaint. They have outsourced now as the guy was in an unmarked golf with a Smartphone which had a network meter app. He told me all the surrounding towers were at -98db. I asked "what next?" he replied that it would take a week or more to fix (by another outsourced Company) 10 min after he left, my Internet went dead. Surely if these muppets all carry network meters and drive around all day, why don't they fixl the problems as they encounter them? Nah stuff it, why should they care if we have a non existent or intermittent service? Any one else in Ferndale, Randburg got the same crappy service?
