Telkom ad suspicious

Well what can I say.

People who really thought the camera crew were running about in realtime, filming a live event, and no actors involved, ag shame, catch a wake-up.

The only people fooled here were those in snot 'n traane.

Added: brought a smile to my face tho, thanks kaspaas.

It does make me wonder if frivalous complaints to the ASA don't just make them more overloaded and ineffective[?]

I all honesty. That Fishermen one is totally ridiculous. What is the cost per minute for that little adventure. Probably worth more than the boat. Also the equipment installed on a boat like that. At least it does jerk a little bit in the advert.

Sadly people seem to really believe all these "emotionally" charged adds, there have been a bunch of them, often concentrating on how telkom is good for keeping in touch with family, and if you're tired of the inlaws get Callanswer...then you can use the thing to return calls...the dog listening to the answering machine...

This is not what advertising is about, this is taking advantage of the feeble minded, it does make me sick, but not enough to complain on behalf of feeble minded folk's behalf to the ASA.

The only way to sway the feeble minded is to present them with a scenario which contradicts the advertiser's claims, and effectively b*tch slaps their brains into action.

where the Doc in CTP use ISDN to do remote surgery on boy in Tanzania ??So now they saying they use ISDN to operate on people[:(!]What if they get disconected. Or the line goes down for few hours then the patient are F#@#cked.Now who wants to put there life in the Hands of Telkom you sure as hell will DIE[xx(]OR what about you get to the hostpital half dead and need surgery and the nurse comes up to you sorry sure our Isdn lines are down youa re going to die[V]

I don't see what all the fuss is about. If people are lame enough not to know that an advert is and advert and not reality then they have a lot to learn. I personally find both the fisherman and the doctor ads sickening, mainly because I know Telkom are trying to play us like fools. Talk about a wolf dressed up like a lamb!

I have a brilliant version, young doctor operation on the boy, suddenly the robotic surgery device suddenly starts twitching uncontrollably ripping the poor lad to shreds, the doctor sees the screen flicker and then the image of the poor dead boy and says, "OMFG LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAG"

I'm at UCT and I actually spoke to the Prof. mentioned in the article. They sure as fsck didnt use ISDN to perform the op.

They had high resolution video streams ... ISDN could never do that.

Telkom lied out their fsking asses [:(!]

Maybe it should have been shown internally to their own management team, to show what could be done with proper communications. As for our Hans's reply in the article, if that boy's life depended on a Telkom internet connection(not using any other world wide acceptable internet connection) that boy's parents had to pray very hard that the op was after midnight(when we can sometimes approach some reasonable connection) and that the hospital was not going to be capped IN THE MIDDLE OF THE OPERATION.

ISDN cannot support that data rate - it's rubbish, same as the rest of their bloody ads. There are always people who lodge complaints about Telkoms ads, they mail me often about it. The ADSL one is pretty bad where they say its R680 and dont mention anything else, people get caught out big time by these guys. Sure, the ads are good, and their advertising agency is very good, but at the end of the day their ads are factually flawed.
