Not bad.....8% reduction in price + 5% increase in capacity. If I could get a 13% decrease in my contention ratio, I would be happy.

I think ISPs should reduce the contention with this price reduction rather than reducing the cost to the end users.

Any chance of the presentation pdf or some voice/video to go with :). Wish these events were live streamed in 720p :(.

Awesome to hear nevertheless :)

Not 720p, but it is available on DStv. Business Day TV (formerly Summit), I think.

Xino_Sam - you are too good. I assume (yeah i know the saying) that mybroadband would mention if the stream was available and it is (just wasn't mentioned in the article ).

For anyone else -

Telkom has teamed up with Rhodes University to bring you the Plenary sessions of SATNAC live on the Internet. The streaming will be activated at the beginning of the conference.

Ok so the 5% increase is an effective 4.8% or so decrease in cost.

If you assume it will be an 8% decrease each year for 3 years now then IPC will end at about 74% of current prices. Can anybody give any idea what impact this will have one your typical 4mbps deal price? It does not seem like a massive improvement to me and I have no idea what it means for me personally.

hey! :)

what needs to be considered is how this factors in to the total price paid for ADSL including line rentals.

1.On a low-end uncapped solution the data portion is around 39% of the total cost to consumer with the line rentals making up the balance of 61%.
2. Of the 39% data cost the cost of IPC makes up about 67% of the total charge to the consumer.

So you don't look at your total cost for DSL and apply an 8% discount and then expect that. The reduction which would be passed on (if done in full) is 8% of the 67% of the 39%.
= peanuts...

100% correct, legal eagle.

On a R300 ISP account it is a reduction of around R6,27. :p

Personally,

I would like to see Afrihost use this 8% decrease to make up for there mobile offering, they have done a lot of good in the Telecoms industry.

I am happy with the price and service I receive from Afrihost. Mweb could learn a thing or two.
