Lo all,

Telkom phoned me this morning saying my dsl self install has been activated finally. (after 5 months of waiting)...

Ok, so my friend lent me an unused Marconi ADSL Router Pots until i can get my router... in a week or two..

Now, ive setup the isp ect on the router, however my problem is, in the ADSL Status Information section of the router it says:
-----------
Table of run-time device testing status:
ADSL Status

INIT Status: Succeed

ADSL OP Mode: Unknown Mode

Moden Status: Activating...
----------

and it stays like that forever...

it also says in the popup window: sent_PADI.

Now, even if i unplug the router from the phone line it still does this.
I also took the router to my work and plugged it into the 4mb/s ADSL line that is there and it does exactly the same thing.

Please help me out here, i am desperate and i have to do work which is requiring the use of this line.

Have you tried resetting the router? I know you say it's unused, but it sounds like different settings there? I had a 4 port marconi ethernet router, could be the same thing? and never heard of those values ;)

Thanks for the quick reply, ive been patiently waiting for it... (and im not a patient person :p)

anyway, its a 1 port version of ur 4port one.

ive reset it like 16 times 2day, i reset it in the web based thing, i reset on the button on the router and i held the button while turning it on... ive tried everything... its already got the latest firmware btw...

Okay, sorry to sound daft, but did you follow the steps in the router manual? Or did you manually set it up? ;)

I'm stumped, the manual looks like a kiddies party, why would they want you do all that schlep? Really stupid if you ask me, one thing you could check though, in the router interface, look for adsl modulation, or something like that, it should either be set to auto or annex A, cause I think it's this
ADSL OP Mode: Unknown Mode

If the status pop up window says Sent_Padi, it meens that the router cannot make a connection to the ESR at the exchange, normally in bridge mode you will get the error 678. These problems usually resolves themselves but if it doesnt u need to call Telkom to check it out.

Have you tried selecting the first option in the wizard? i think it something along the lines of "PPP of atm", yes we dont use an ATM network but that option allows you to create a bridge. Set up a connection through windows and see what error you get when trying to connect....i could be wrong tho but i seem to remember being able to do it...
