I am contemplating upgrading our line from a 1mb/s to a 2mb/s line. I done a brief check with Hellopeter and saw a few people complaining that they noticed very little difference between the two.

Does anyone have any experience with the two lines?

There is a definite difference.

Note that Telkom are upgrading lines for free in November, which means that you will only need to upgrade your ISP account.

Hence, if you upgrade from 1 to 2Mbps today, Telkom will upgrade your line speed to 4Mbps in November.

You will see a massive difference. Most people can't go back to 1Meg after experiencing 2Meg.

Only half right. They're starting upgrades in November, then they have a network freeze over December and January. So most people will only get upgraded next year.

I've heard about this and that sounds mighty fine to me.

I tried 1Mbps to save money and hated it. Wife even told me to cut the budget somewhere else to get back to 2Mbps. There is also less contention on the 2Mbps line so you have a better ping and latency.

Also look up our thread on the Telkom 25% discount. I'm now paying R360 per month for my DoAdvanced (thats the 2Mbps line & 2Mbp ISP account). All I had to do was commit to a 12 month contract with Telkom.
