Why do people have to be such noobs. These new users need to visit a few ISP sites and find out about things like bandwidth and capping... 1Gb is sufficient for thousands of people (just like a Toyota Tazz). If your requirements are more, buy more. Don't just expect everyone else do do everything for you. Anyway, this article states that a DVD quality movie equals about 4 GB to download. That would be piracy in 99% of the cases.... There are enough sites like this for Broadband customers to be able to be "Informed Consumers", you don't just buy a car without first buying a few Car magazines and going for a test drive.

So what do you use the internet for? I'm guessing that you're the type of person with a dial-up mentality. Or rather, just view ADSL as glorified dial-up.

We are talking about bandwidth and caps, not cars. Comparing the two is stupid.

It sounds rather like you are defending Telkom’s caps.... lets hope you are not.

The problem is the average user ("thousands of people") do not have the knowledge of broadband and caps and latency and all the other things involved. Instead they see these lies from Telkom and actually believe that they can do things as advertised. You average computer illiterate person actually believes that they can go a site like yotube and stream thousands of movies each month without any issues.

The fact that they do not know better, does not give Telkom the right to lie to them, and to abuse it's monopoly by just shoving insufficient services down their throat.

The is the rub for me, not only are they screwing us with shyte service and products but then turn around and have the audacity to lie to our faces that they are offering something they are not.

Going back to your car story... putting a VW engine in a Ferrari kit car and calling it a Ferrari and selling it as a Ferrari does not make it a Ferrari.

I have do broadband and have been jerked around by the consultants at Telkom so many times when trying to get info regarding the specifics of the package. Especially regarding local bandwidth.

I was told by several consultants on the phone that when I reach the 1 gig cap, I should be able to surf local sites free. Something which I am happy with. But alas it seems not to be the case as I get told. Only to be told again by another consultant that local bandwidth is free.

I know I can access the banking sites but I want email and local bandwidth after the cap.

Once again please read my signature Telkom MOFOS

What? Do you work for Telkom or something??

You've shot yourself in the foot already by saying something as stupid as "1Gb is sufficient for thousands of people". True broadband should be available to millions of people, not thousands, but it isn't available because of the cost and government incompetency / corruption. 1Gb is a laugh a minute.

"If you want more, buy more"? WTF? The whole point of this site is to expose the consumers plight for affordable broadband, and you come up with this sh*te?? Go play elsewhere.

I can almost guarentee you that this deceitful business practice will never cease until REALISTIC fines and penalties are imposed on companies like Telkom.

ie, hit them where it hurts. Perhaps they might transfer cost it back to the client however simply asking Telkom to "withdraw" the advert does nothing.

Catch 22 situation with no real solution.

Do Broadband Ad still showing on TV

I've seen the Do Broadband ad again after an absence of a few weeks. To my understanding the ASA ruled against Telkom. Why is this ad still being shown?
