Telkom launches 5G

Telkom has commercially launched its 5G network, will soon introduce fixed wireless access services and has started testing mobile 5G on its network.

During a media event on Thursday, Telkom consumer business CEO Lunga Siyo said Telkom has quietly been laying the groundwork to launch 5G, including expanding its fibre backhaul.

But yet they can't fix the iMessage activation issue that has plagued them for months

It's Telkom they dont even have esim working, yet apple dropped support for simcards

I somehow doubt Telkom can pull off true 5G

Heck even MTNs 5G is nowhere close to where it should be. the upload is no better than VDSL and the download speed is nowhere where it should be.

In the states you get 1Gbps and uncapped, there isn't notions of packages and MBs it's uncapped standard.

you get something like 100 hours of netflix or you tube free.
2000 minutes and 500 meg for whatsapp. I can not use it up.

i am happy with telkom.

Has anyone tried Telkom's new Coverage Map on their phone? It sucks
It's default location is Gauteng but the moment you try moving the map around it goes to the Indian ocean and sticks there.
Maybe it's my phone but can someone try and give us some feedback.

I don't know what they were thinking with that new map. It doesn't work properly at all. You can't even check total coverage of a specific technology. Backwards

Am not optimistic about their 5G roll out we all know this will be available in 4 to 6 Metros only up until 2025 unless icasa force MNO to cover small towns with 5G before 2025, this is FTTH each operator keeps covering same area, Telkom took 8 years to cover my city with 3G

I wonder why this isn't available for existing mobile customers. Is this a Standalone 5G deployment vs a Non-standalone one?
