It's Telkom they dont even have esim working, yet apple dropped support for simcards

I somehow doubt Telkom can pull off true 5G

Heck even MTNs 5G is nowhere close to where it should be. the upload is no better than VDSL and the download speed is nowhere where it should be.

In the states you get 1Gbps and uncapped, there isn't notions of packages and MBs it's uncapped standard.

Telkom esims work just fine when loaded at a store- scan and go

But yet they can't fix the iMessage activation issue that has plagued them for months

I vaguely remember that you had to have an SMS bundle that was active for international in urder for it to activate properly the first time.

Telkom issued number but family member from mtn also had no issues when porting and using iMessage
Interesting... I have got an old Cell C number that I ported. What service do they have? The MTN number (Topup, Open Contract or Prepaid)

So international roaming and SMS international roaming is active on my account.
Have FreeMe if that helps
Considering looking into the possibility of having my open contract changed to a FreeMe topup and hoping that works.

Didn't help sadly.

Still not able to activate iMessage and FaceTime on my Telkom eSim.

Switched on international roaming
Loaded a new FreeMe bundle

Still get this stupid message which then goes into an infinite loop.

The 5G networks currently uses the 4G as backbone or transport with 5G access loaded on top of that. Thats why you dont get 1Gbps (... can go higher 10Gbps is possible). Its cheating and not proper 5G in my opinion.

That MTN family member - physical or eSIM?

Okay, I also have an eSIM but Contract.

So depending on @William1102 this might be an eSIM issue as that's then the common denominator in this issue.

Interesting. I have a separate physical contract sim in another phone that has a full FreeMe package associated with it and that had registered.

Awesome! Thank you for confirming.

Then is def is a eSIM related issue. Now the question  how do we relay this research information over to Telkom @Jan Do you perhaps have some contacts there?

Followup.

All of a sardine the issue resolved itself.

The only thing that I've done since last posting, was logging into my profile on my daughter's Macbook (to do some maintenance updates) and I noticed that it popped up a message saying that my Apple ID was now active on (insert Telkom number here) - when I checked my phone I saw that the 'tick' appeared next to the Telkom eSim number under Facetime indicating that it's now active.

So it seems that fiddling about with all those settings above got it working somehow.
