Telkom announces LTE-Advanced rollout areas

Hmm, my area is included, but they have said that before and still have no TM cover.

Don’t all those places already have access to Fibre and VDSL?

One would go with VDSL logically for the pricing...
I assume the 3 services will be available in the high end suburbs / areas, then middle class areas will be served by VDSL and LTE, then the more rural by LTE alone.

and then the rest (90% of the country) with 4mbps adsl :whistling:

Since when are 90% of ADSL users on (a minimum of) 4Mbps ?

The vast majority are at 2Mbps still - far as I know, Telkom haven't yet started upgrading from 2 to 4, even though there was a thread on it some time ago on MyBB, or even an article?

In fact, some people are on 1Mbps, on MWeb, as they don't know any better about lines having been upgraded from 1 to 2 late last year, and early into this year, and MWeb certainly weren't going to advertise that fact knowing how they operate.

Certainly no 90% on 4Mbps ADSL for some few years to come.

Although I can understand why Telkom is deploying infrastructure in those areas I still consider it unfair to their other customers who have to make due with older technology.

As an example let’s assume all the people in those areas make use of one of the three products on offer it will leave sixty percent of the infrastructure dormant. Isn’t that a waste?

Would it not have been better to deploy LTE/4G to areas where services are lacking?

One cannot use VDSL while on the move hence it is necessary for all three where financially viable for Telkom. In the next year or so more cars and other mobile devices / equipments will be connected.

This is good news as it's going to be the starting point of the roll outs to the rest of the country. I also give credit to Telkom for their cheaper data which makes the speed upgrades useful. Vodascum needs to chill out a bit and re-look at their data pricing so people can actually take advantage of those higher speeds
