Strewth, you know when you read a piece like that its really hard to believe how Telkom are allowed to get away with this, year after year.
Great report.

Strategic reason: To keep our investors, we can not afford to loose in court, therefore, we rather no go there, but settle beforehand!

I just wish that the doc would speed up their 'processes' so that we are not all still bound to Telkom and that there was an alternative operator

I don't think that that was the "strategic reason".

From Business Day report: "Stirton’s counsel claimed that the information posted on the site was true, fair comment and in the public interest".

The "strategic reason", I think, was that -- win or lose -- it would have been a publicity disaster for Telscum even to have the issue of the truth/fairness of the site's content discussed or debated, in full view of the press, in open court.

Everyone has a price... the M$ tactic... Dont go to court, and pay the owner of 'The offending Website' a Million Rand and make him sign a contract that he wont do it again.

Not that I am saying that this will happen, but will you shut down your web site for a Million bucks? its still cheaper than dragging court proceeding out for 2 years and loosing the case.

I'm pretty sure that it won't happen. I was in regular contact with Gregg and his attorney Brendan Hughes (of Michalsons) throughout this litigation, and AFAIK the final settlement of the matter was very definitely and deliberately not premised upon Gregg's promising not to "do it again".

In response to this new gesture,I have decided to give the New Captain of Telkom a few month to set new course for his ship.

There will be no new challenges from my IFA Army for the next 3 or 4 month - The ball is in ICASA's hands.

I intend to use this 3 month break(armistice) to spread consumer activism outside Telecoms industry.

We are looking for a new villain for the saga.............coming soon

In all honesty if Telkom offered me 1 million or even 10 million to close the site I would have said thanks but no thanks. Not that I don't need it, I just wouldn't do it :)
