"Rather, it is an attempt by an erstwhile monopolist to thwart the beneficial impact of deregulation in the form of greater economies of scale for rival managed network services providers and lower costs for customers."

Now how about them apples!
Dare I suggest that this is indeed a glimmer of hope.

TELKOM’s R2,4bn bid for Business Connexion was vetoed as it was a clear tactic by a monopolistic player to thwart the benefits deregulation offered consumers, the Competition Tribunal said yesterday.

Dressed up as an effort to find new revenue streams, the takeover move was actually an attempt to stifle innovation so Telkom could maintain monopolistic margins, says a hard-hitting verdict explaining why the takeover was blocked.
Shove that up your arse Mbeki.

Now just waiting for the Telkom spin doctors' response on how the merger would have created more jobs and now the money will now not stay inside the country but go outside South Africa.
Mbeki will be the first one to be fooled by Telkom spin because Telkom is his government's biggest BEE success story.

The 100-page document emphasised the ability that the merged entity would have to increase prices at the retail level.

Noooooo.... y'think? :p

Hell anyone on this forum could've told them that in, er, short universally understood language for free :D.
