Telkom "blackmail"

I ordered ADSL for a client and was instructed that as I won't use the Telkom modem, I must supply 2 Telkom microfilters on the day of installation, else they won't install. "These filters can be purchased at any of our branches sir"

Until I wanted to just do that at Centurion branch: "Sorry sir, we don't have stock. We ordered and don't know when it will be delivered. But you can order a Telkom modem instead."

The message is very simple: You may use any ICASA approved modem, as long as you provide Telkom filters. But we won't readily supply the filters to you unless you purchase the Telkom modem[:(!]

South Africa needs World Class Broadband at World Competitive Prices.

This is blatant intimidation.

The micro filters have nothing to do with the modem or router that you use. Their only purpose is to allow and analogue device i.e. fax or phone to share the same line. If the user chooses not to have any analogue devices attached then the filter is irrelevant.

I agree with grubman, ask them to fax it to you so that we can pass it on to ICASA. Pushing the law to the limits is bad enough but extortion is illegal.

Cheers
