"MyADSL notes that it is particularly encouraging to see that he plans to focus on customer satisfaction and hopes he will usher in a more consumer-centric trend within Telkom. However, it is concerned his allegiance to Telkom shareholders could overshadow his ability to place the needs of the South African public at the forefront."

I think it sums it up well :D

Excellent!

RPM, where you the spokesperson for us again? Or is ITWeb now reading the board before writing a story?

Hi Ettubrute

I was the spokesperson... They usually ask me for comment, after which I read what is written on the forums and then give feedback by email. I therefore really just repeat what you guys said.

Regards,

RPM

Nice done RPM. Getting myADSL mentioned almost everywhere now.

He says Telkom already has experienced executives within its ranks who will be able to provide insight while he educates himself.
With that! well there are many comments that can be made as to how compitent his experienced execs are, but my big thing is I hope he means it when he says he will educate himself, and not be mislead by those around him

He says the SNO will likely target Telkom's customer base, further weakening its local revenue streams. This will make the need to expand further into Africa to access alternative revenue streams even more important.
Heaven help the rest of Africa! and could it be these plans to push further into too Africa be the reason we are paying through our noses right now, to help fund these projects? Anyone want to take a bet that if Telkom gets into some other countries with stronger competition.. they offer ADSL cheaper than we get it at home?

Lol. That would be a bit of a blow.

With any luck, the new CEO means what he says and will retain a big degree of independence. I imagine this must be a hard time for him as he has to balance establishing himself as a strong individual able to lead Telkom and someone who is able to make positive changes and keep the SNO from eroding the majority of Telkom's user base.

I'll stay fairly conservative and say I'll give him total support until (if) it goes pear shaped.

My take is that any clown can lead a company in the position of Telkom - I mean look at $izwe - I doubt he can tell a fiber optic strand from a piece of string.

I mean the challenges Telkom have ahead are akin to choosing which gun to use when shooting fish in a barrel...even the "competition" everyone refers to is moot.
The SNO is not going to be anything more than a drinking pal that will join Telkom with its pursuit of shooting the same fish in the same barrel...

Let face it, the outcome of the SNO is already "agreed".
The government has rigged it so that they will now have vested interests in both Telkom and the SNO (thru Esitel/Transtel) - how cosy is that!

So yeah, Telkom should have appointed Jacob Zuma to CEO - since lying and corruption is effectively an entry requirement to the post, old Jacob would have been right at home at Telkom central.
