So Telkom called me today to say I can have an upgrade from DSL 512 to 4Mbit and pay ~R60 less.

My current invoice:
Telkom Closer Option 3 ~R300
DSL 512 ~R359

2x TelkomInternet (but doesnt matter for this)

Their advise:

Telkom Closer Option 4
- All the above that I currently have ,except a 4Mbit line
for R699

The catch? I need to sign a 24 month contract. The 4Mbit will do nicely for the two TelkomInternet accounts I got, get all the downloads done in the last day of being active etc... but is it worth signing a contract? Neotel is around the corner.... we hope

You can save quite a bit by simply cancelling you 2 TelkomInternet accounts and moving them to another ISP - such as WebAfrica or Axxess.

See Hellkom.co.za for a list.

Most of the other ISP's are very restricted when it comes to bandwidth usage. Im on 14.9GB this month and my first account isnt capped yet. I do use alot of traffic. Well alot of traffic for S.A comparisons

I have 1 WebAfrica prepaid for when both are capped, and 1 WebAfrica Unshaped Prepaid for World of Warcraft

The best offer I could find was WebAfrica 10GB for R480 or something like that, but that was only incase TelkomInternet does something strange.

hmm maybe this thread should be scrapped. I think I misread what was said aswell. I dont think you need to sign a contract, only if you want a new modem. woops

You don't need a contract UNLESS you opt for the modem+ phone. In fact if you already have an ADSL account you cannot take the contract option.

I have 2 lines ...

Is it possible to take out the Closer option - and have the call benefits apply to line 1 and keep the dsl on line 2 ?

Good question. If you get an answer please post it here.
Have a similar setup at home.
