Means spiteful, cruel bitter etc...

Maybe a bit harsh, but hey, we are all entitled to our opinion

Yeah duh! Of course we're objective about Telscum. The question that should be asked is why? I think we've got enough reasons. :)

"Telkom has a very successful business to protect and has been dropping prices slowly. If it hadn't upset consumers so much in the past, it might encounter more sympathy now. It's another lesson in bad corporate karma: rotten service levels are always going to come back to bite you."

Ain't that the truth!

Yes, I'm biased. :D

Companies that lie to a mostly uninformed public don't really make me want to cry their virtues (assuming I could find any) from the rooftops.

I think we created that feeling in this forum because we need to be like that to be successful at challenging telkom.

But yet another reporter that writes half the story...

vitriolic'??? son of a...

As for Icasa's reports bordering on 'barely disguised bouts of irritation'.
I'm not surprised.

Have you LOOKED at the credentials and cv's of the ICASA panel? I mean, those are seriously intelligent people - and then, in the other corner, you have the profiteering, drooling retard known as Telkom, that clearly isn't even potty-trained, let alone able to cope in a real competitive (or democratic) enviroment. Based on that, I'm amazed ICASA hasn't started punching these stupid backward Telkom swines.

PS: Speaking as a working journalist AND a forumite, I would like to apologize to everyone, and point out that not all journalists suck as badly or are as ignorant as the above article would suggest :)

Lets see, what are my choices

Option 1
=======
Sing the praises of telkom with the hope they give me prefferential charges for ADSL. Not gonna happen, besides i dont sing.

Option 2
======
Sit and be quiet and wait for Uncle Telkom to feel pity and drop the prices ? I have been doing that all my life and prices keep going up and up.

Options 3
=======
Scream rant, toy toy, become an arm chair activist, bias against Telkom, join MyADSL forum, foward articles to a few key ppl. Result ICASA submissions, Imminent price drop.

I'll take option 3 thank you very much.

'Vitriolic', phhff, sure theres emotion here,, people are peed off, As for a 'grain of truth'. According to Icasa, theres a bit more than that around here.
Shes just sitting on the fence and not taking a stand, being objective hehe.
I would of prefered 'passionate or determined' though. HAHA

Its an extremely frivilous statement to make by Author.

She mentions MyADSL (and creates an impression that MyADSL is directly involved) but doesnt clarify the reasons for - She goes on to detail the debacle between telkom and icasa.

It looks to me like she needed more content to make up a word limit, and so just slapped that paragraph in there.

She states that "Telkom has a very successful business to protect and has been dropping prices slowly. If it hadn't upset consumers so much in the past, it might encounter more sympathy now."

AFAIK Telkom announced the price change AFTER the ICASA hearings.......which just goes to show her ignorance on the subject matter.

I hold no brief for Telkom, but I feel the current hysterical reaction by everyone who has a computer or a fax machine is a bit too much. I am also in business and I charge what the market will bear - in most cases that amount has nothing to do with my costs. Telkom is in the lucky position that it has a monopoly which means that the market can bear a little more than most. Do not crucify Telkom for trying to make a quick buck - go after those who put Telkom in a position to hold the market to ransom. After all, the government has dragged its feet for three years and has still not finalised the matter of giving a second fixed line operator a license.

Telkom is not "trying to make a quick buck". They have been ruling us with an iron fist for how many years?

No but goddamn go crucify the fools stupid enough to think that they can extort the crap outa the consumer BECAUSE they are the monopoly.

And quite simply, i would preffer to kick the crap outa any "business man" where their prices are not in relation to the services that they offer. Fortunatley Its alot easier where the entities in question are not monopolies, because I always can deal with the smaller service companies trying to break into the market.

Welcome, you would possibly also notice the absence of the illustrious minister and her department in this latest little spat, not a peep, shes probably having a snooze again.
Telkom are doing what they have been allowed to do, make money and lots of it at everyone elses expense. Now hopefuly, its going to stop, thx Icasa.

The market has had enough. The fact that you have clients whom you charge more than what you should is unfortunate for those uninformed clients.

We are informed about the service we buy from Telkom.

A bit of perspective, Telkom NOT does charge what their customers can bear. They are the monopoly, this means we are in a captive market, we have no choice. Here is my feeling, the hysteria you speak of is no nearly enough ! It will get louder and louder till Telkom stops abusing this society.

Your suggestion to rather go for government instead of Telkom is less effective, all it does is buy more time for Telkom to continue to rape us.

Somebody pass the KY jelly please.
