I just keep wondering how telscum will justify that their media company can stream live video to you 24/7 and you do not have to pay for bandwidth but when an ISP wants to send you data you have to pay through your hole for it. Even when it is all local traffic.

I think the Competition Commission should take a look at that.

Tired of excuses and lies

Well, this is the typical African way of doing things. Promises and presentations, but no follow through or service delivery.

We've been waiting since February for ADSL for our offices in Monument Road in Kempton Park. I would have thought that this area is covered, and even the Telkom website says we have ADSL access, but this doesn’t mean anything. Even a formal complaint to ICASA didn't change things....

We are in the process of closing our company and all the members will be emigrating to Europe & New Zealand.

Africa can keep going downhill without us. Our staff will have to find other jobs and the taxes we pay can go to a country that actually has some intellectual people running things.

They will have to make the caps bigger.
ADSL2+ can't have a 3GB cap - that will be funny.
Local internet must be uncapped according to ICASA.
I think telkom are just trying to see how long they can rip us off - as far as adsl regs are concerned.
I'm sure they will make local uncapped when they launch triple play.

Telkom is keeping it's focus alright, it's focus on making money riding the gravy train!

After a few years of court cases.

Lawyer fees can easily be covered by the amount they rip us off for local gigs.

But I really hope you are correct and I am wrong.

the company had 594 000 ADSL ports installed at the end of March 2007
What does that mean? 594k subscribers or 594k possible ADSL connections? There was a report on this site some time ago that by Feb 2007 all exchanges would be ADSL enabled. With self-installation anybody who wants an ADSL line should be able to have one then. What happened?
Did nobody ask any question at that presentation?

200k to 300k additional ADSL subscribers in 4 years time? Are they serious in their goal setting, and do they aim for the lowest possible numbers?

I suspect that the constraint is international capacity and Telkom does not want a fast spread of ADSL nor can they dispose of caps because latency would become unacceptable. Guess who would be the first ones to complain.

I reckon they base it too much on the end of month scenario, where everyone is desperately trying to sue what they paid for before it's stolen from them.

If the caps were bigger, with local uncapped, the usage would stabilise and even out.

The company’s triple play portfolio is also under development –with its ADSL 2+ rollout and bringing fiber closer to the customer - to ensure that there is enough bandwidth to serve Telkom and Telkom Media’s needs.
Typical... they should be concerned about their customers needs, not their own.

Telskommel and Neotottie plans are a little too long term for me.

By the time they catch up to what the rest of the world had in 2007 it will be 2057...and I'll probably be dead.

I'll be in Alaska, hanging with the Eskimos. They'll probably be more inline with international norms than we will.

I can just see it.... Dog sleds gone wireless
