Telkom customer strike - do not pay your telkom bill for a month?

We wanted to find out what people think about not paying their Telkom bill for a month? The service is so terrible that not even the CEO of Telkom (Sipho Maseko) would pay for that kind of service to any other service provider so why should we continue to pay for a service that is as bad as Telkoms?

You only need to visit the Telkom Facebook page to see just swamped they are with complaints.

We have already started making contact with lawyers to find out what our rights are here but it cannot carry on like this. If enough people decided not to pay their phone bill for a month, perhaps the shakeup would hurry things along that seem to be taking its time. Telkom's service has been this terrible for years, it's been coming for a long time.

Speaking to the supervisors at Telkom's call center, one of which has worked at Telkom for over 20 years, they too are frustrated as management do not listen to them.

We've had technicians at our office, also working at Telkom for over 20 years complaining that they have no clue what is going on most of the time.

It is just incredible that the one thing Telkom is supposed to do best - communication - is the worst thing they do.

My line works just fine and their service has been great lately... So no, I won't join your little crusade

You're one of the lucky ones then. It's not just one incident, it's years and years of complaints and fighting for better service.

Lol, I applied for an adsl line and got it in 1 hour so I'd say service is kinda good.

You not paying for a month will do nothing to hurt them, and you will have interest to pay (read - pay more for a service you are not happy with).

Yup, if I compare how long it took to get my first ADSL line compared to now, service was much better. Cannot complain this side.

Got no complaints at the moment, and when I do have the occasional problem, they are quick to sort it out.

Sorry, but what exactly are you trying to achieve? That your line will get disconnected?

I may be wrong, but I am sure most people who have a telephone line/ADSL line have it for a purpose, albeit for business/emergencies/communicating with loved ones and will probably not be able to afford having the line disconnected to try and prove a point.

And then of course there is the possibility (probably 100%) that nothing will come of this (because Telkom isn't a corner shop who will feel any sort of pinch if a couple of people don't pay) and then you end up having to deal with the admin afterwards of trying to sort your account out. Last time I checked they made Billions in profit, so exactly how many people will you need to rile up to make them feel anything?

If you are not happy with Telkom, get something else. The only thing you really need Telkom for these days is a Fax line, and even for that there are alternatives, together with all their other Voice/Data services.

Good luck though!

There are alternatives to Telkom, and no one is forcing you to have a Telkom line.

It seems there are a few of us who are lucky enough to have a relatively good service from Telkom. The Telkom Facebook page speaks differently, there a literally thousands of complaints, and you only need to run into one problem and call 10210 to see how terrible that service is. Most people sit in that queue for anything from 5 - 45 minutes waiting for the call to be answered.

And the customer call center supervisors cannot be wrong either when they have worked there for over 20 years and complain that the very company they work for do not listen to them.

Do tell where I can get alternate fixed lines!

My line has changed from a perfect 10mbps, to a high latency congested 7mbps that barely achieves 2mbps speeds.

You people saying that your line is perfect currently, just wait and see, later you'll be weeping on the facebook page too, and Telkom wil feast off your tears.

also struggling with them at the moment, their service was really good a year ago but dealing with the faults department now is the worst its ever been (in my experience)
been trying to get a fault resolved since march now, i've logged the same fault 6 times because they keep closing it without bothering to attend to it, its been escalated twice (both escalations ignored)..very irritating

I've had an insident where the line syncs perfectly, but no ISP can connect, where the fault reporting staff tell me I first need to resolve the issue with ISPs (all 4 of them?! including telkom themselves?)

The guy kept on arguing about it not being their problem.

I just later told him to stfu and log the fault, I don't care if I have to pay for a call out.

OP mentioned "business".

And a quote from Neotel's products doc"
NeoBroadband: Using our superior and robust LTE Network, NeoBroadband delivers an unparalleled Internet experience to businesses looking for a fixed or fixed wireless, uncapped and unshaped solution with speeds of up to 10 Mbps. Unlike other heavily contended broadband services, NeoBroadband offers a fast and efficient Internet service with very little contention."

I used to despise Helkom but lately (last 3 years or so) their service has been on point so I really have no reason to "strike".

I am sure that if people posted on Facebook every time they received good service from Telkom it would not look that bad, but people tend to only make noise when having issues.
