I am sure that if people posted on Facebook every time they received good service from Telkom it would not look that bad, but people tend to only make noise when having issues.
There are quite a few compliments on their FB page that the OP did not spam with his stupid little comments...

I don't even think that telkom give a f#kk what their customers do or do not do.
Judging by their facebook page , they don't even bother to respond to anyone ...
Regarding the reviews option there, people try to put zero stars, but the lowest you can go is 1 star.

I read about a scenario in March 2014, where there was a 2 week outage because of underground cables that were destroyed by construction workers.
Informing telkom was pointless. People that needed a basic service (ie. just to make calls) couldn't do that either.
Some of these people were very old grannies and grandads who don't need internet , but would like to be able to call someone if there is an emergency. But they couldn't call. Going into the physical telkom branch proved even more fruitless as `we are aware of your call' scenario played over non-stop.

We wanted to find out what people think about not paying their Telkom bill for a month? The service is so terrible that not even the CEO of Telkom (Sipho Maseko) would pay for that kind of service to any other service provider so why should we continue to pay for a service that is as bad as Telkoms?

You only need to visit the Telkom Facebook page to see just swamped they are with complaints.

We have already started making contact with lawyers to find out what our rights are here but it cannot carry on like this. If enough people decided not to pay their phone bill for a month, perhaps the shakeup would hurry things along that seem to be taking its time. Telkom's service has been this terrible for years, it's been coming for a long time.

Speaking to the supervisors at Telkom's call center, one of which has worked at Telkom for over 20 years, they too are frustrated as management do not listen to them.

We've had technicians at our office, also working at Telkom for over 20 years complaining that they have no clue what is going on most of the time.

It is just incredible that the one thing Telkom is supposed to do best - communication - is the worst thing they do.

Non payment only costs you in the end. Rather cancel your account if you're not happy.

If the infrastructure is damaged (or stolen) by an outside party how can you hold Telkom responsible? If you can repair the damage economically sooner than the present contractors I am sure Telkom would love to hear from you.
The unhappy very vocal Telkom customers are a small minority.

I disagree with you Hendrie. Speak to the supervisor Sam at Telkom's call center in Durban and he will tell you a very different story about the minority.

This very forum, has brought about pressure on Telkom so that you have a better experience but that fight is far from over.

Has Sam agreed to you using his name in public, and referencing his points of view (if they're even his)...

We are fully aware of what this forum was brought about for, and we are also aware that the fight is far from over. In saying that though, we generally do not see a need to join some pointless crusade that will only end up hurting us... Telkom will just add interest to you unpaid bill, and if you continue to not pay, they will disconnect your service and then eventually hand you over for debt collection.

You not paying for a month will do nothing to hurt them, and you will have interest to pay (read - pay more for a service you are not happy with).

Plus a re-connection fee if I recall. I once forgot pay my account when I was overseas, to get it re connected was not fun when I returned.

I don't believe this kind of boycott has any effect. My wife also runs a small business from home, she could never afford to be without a line / ADSL etc.

Of late, service hasn't been to bad to be honest.

Well my line is working hundreds right now so I'm in a if-it-aint-broke-don't-fix-it sort of mind set but I must agree that most of the time their service is total garbage and when things go wrong they go horribly wrong. On my last call out it took them 3 weeks to even rock up. My brother's line went down and it took them 6 weeks to send a techie - and this is in JHB, not Nowheresfontein. Useless. The other thing is that if you don't know your stuff then the call centre will try and BS you, telling you everything under the sun to make out like it's your fault.

Having said all that, the less I have to deal with them the better so...

Only drive I want to start is that Telkom should provide clients with 2 X 4mbps Bonded ADSL lines for the price of one where they cannot provide 10mbps...

I promise if my party take over government all people will have internet access... :)

I do feel for you though. Our one line was down for 3 weeks in the last month and one feels like you have to wait until a technician arrives that actually gives a sh*t. We went through several techies before one actually started to approach the problem logically. Anyway, just have to chill and wait it out as there is sweet blow all you can do about it. They will get to you when they get to you.

Did you receive (or apply) for a refund on your rental for the period that you were without service?

Telkom has always given me good service with quick response time.Even when the builders next door broke my line,Telkom didn't charge us for the month.Didn't even have to ask for discount.
