My ADSL install date was today, 1 September. No sign of Telkom all day. I phoned around 15:00, just to make sure. Was put through to "activations," the operator checked and told me that, yes, a technician is definitely coming out today.

Assuming Telkom's techs don't work after 22:00 on a Friday, who can I phone on a Saturday to complain?

Thanks

If this brings any consolation to you, techies work weekends so, don't lose hope.

I got my self install on the 25th August and today someone from Telkom called me to say that my installation date is in 11 days time .. lmao .. like I said before .. Telkom are a breed of their own :)

Why do people not take the self install options? It side steps the whole Telkom techie appointment. After all, to install yout modem is really just plug'nplay.
Koffiejunkie, if you had self install, you could be online by now.

Well, what exactly in the "Self Install" option do I have to do myself? I am a network tech, I do many ADSL (and other connectivity) installations for clients, all the time. I have a Netgear DG632 router/modem in dumb modem mode, a linux firewall, wireless network already setup. All I'm waiting for is telkom to bring my line.

But I don't have a line in the house - it's not just a matter of them plugging in at the exchange (like at my old house). They physically have to put in the cables.

In my case the techie had to come to my house - plug in a loopback device, go to the exchange and do a signal/distance test, then come back to my house and remove his test equipment and ISDN NTU.

The way I see it - I'll make back that installation fee in 4 months now that my super expensive ISDN line is gone.

At my house the techie also didn't come on the installation date so I just plugged in a router and the line worked. So no installation fee. :)

Well at my old place the guys didn't phone me like I asked (I work a couple of minutes away, but there's no one home), but when I got home I plugged in the modem and it worked.

BUT

At the new place there are no lines. None. So they have to come in.

I was hoping they would pitch by now. And of course, telkom's numbers only work in business hours....

Funny but they gave me the cell of the technician so I contacted him directly to find out where the heck he was ... he was making adjustments to my line at the exchange.
