Telkom called to say they will be disconnecting her phone line end of August (It is still working so far though)

Currently she uses
1) Telkom landline (Line rental + about R100/mo on phone calls)
2) 1GB of MTN Data in a Huawei B618-22d (R40/month)

She has vumatel coverage but vumatel is simply too expensive to even considder.

She needs to keep her landline number.

I have no clue what telkom has been doing recently with FLLA as I can not find much on their website

One possibility would be
MTN Uncapped 10Mbps (R249/mo)
Axxess VOIP (R100/mo)
Brings me up to R349

My concern is that VOIP over MTN F-LTE sounds risky... more risky than fiber at least. Is this a bad idea?

Also does anyone know what Afrihost and Axxess charge to make voip calls between them? can not find a rate for that.

Is it worth considdering Telkom LTE as an option? can they provision a sim card to work on the B618-22d that will also allow phone calls to be made?

You can plug a normal phone into the router and make calls on Telkom LTE.

Had a similar problem with my 93 year old father. Ported the number to Freshphone and setup the Freshphone app on his phone to receive call to his number. Works well.

If she is not tech savvy then a Telkom FLLA could be an option. It looks and feels very much like a land line, hence the name.

Freshphone is the answer. A lot cheaper as well. Any LTE connection is fine, choose the cheapest

Port the Telkom number to Freshphone for R145 one-off before the service ends, After that it is too late
