Telkom Fiber and Multiple concurrent ISP accounts

Hi Guys,

Been out the loop a while and have a question that should be pretty basic for those in the know:
- Lets say I order a WebAfrica fiber account (ie openserv underneath)
- This essentially still connects as an 'IPC' connection to the ISP
- On the DSL network it was possible to have multiple concurrent ISP accounts running at the same time

Is the above still possible on the fiber accounts? In other words -- I want to have 2 concurrent connections running at the same time on the modem....Is 'half-bridge' even a thing on the new fiber ONTs?

With Telkom yes, with Vuma and Fibrehoods, no

Though with Vuma and Fibrehoods, I personally don't believe you need a second account, as there is no IPC connection as with Telkom

Interesting!

I would like to know if it may be possible to have TWO Modem/Router running of ONE fibre line.

Here is the scenario;
Main house: Has a fibre line; OpenServ & WebAfrica capped account.
Cottage: Part of the main house, separated by a garage with no internet access.

Objective:
Would like to split the fibre line before that Router to allow cottage a connection using their own router and ISP account?
Two separate networks, two separate accounts.
Would the split happen in fibre (optical) or at the ONT?

Thanks for your feedback!

Since your on openserve , and they use GPON in theory they could split the fibre before the ONT, they would then install another ONT in the cottage. its not a DIY job as the ONT has to register to the OLT in the core, and the ONT has to be provisioned from the OLT.

Code:
            /-------------------------Router Home
ONT---Switch
            \-------------------------Router Cottage

I think that should work as the router after the ONT basically just dials up a PPPoE, this does however mean both routers will share the line speed of the fibre you have so one person could hog the line in theory, to overcome this you would have to replace the switch with a router that can do rate limiting to restrict any of the end routers to X speed.

Why is there a switch after the ONT and both routers don't plug directly into the ONT? I think only port one is active on the ONT, I could test this but I'm to lazy to switch ports right now :D

Anyways you could test the above setup quite easily if you can get your hands on a spare router with a wan port using one of those free 1GB accounts offered by many ISPs, just need a switch/hub to which many people already have.
