Hi, I have a question about 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi download and upload speed.

Let me first explain my setup quickly:

200Mbps (200 down, 100 up) fibre line with Telkom as ISP
Huawei ONT (can't remember the model number)
Asus RT-AC68U router

On 5GHz I get between 190 / 195 down and 90 / 95 up, great stuff.

Now on 2.4GHz I only get between 50 / 60 down and the same up.

Is that the norm and / or can I do something to increase the 2.4GHz speed?

Could be that your 2.4Ghz settings are not set correctly for max performance.....

What speed does your clients show when connected the the 2.4Ghz wifi? 150Mbps?

I was also thinking that it might be a setting, I'll have to go and confirm that speed on 2.4GHz when I get home.

The 5Ghz is also under performing, you might need to change some channels. Another router like your neighbors being on the same channel can introduce interference, thus degrading performance

I will keep that in mind, thanks.

You will never get 200meg on the 2.4G wifi, the router probably states 2.4G wifi supports 300Meg on 802.11 n, that is the theoretical max rate of the router, and is the combined throughput of the up link and downlink.
Therefore theoretical DL rate is 150Mb/s, you can then take of about 40% off that for overhead etc. and that does not take into account distance form the router, and any interference caused by other AP's, baby monitors, blue tooth devices or microwave's

Interesting, thank you. Luckily most of our stuff is on the 5GHz band.

Can I do something to increase the 2.4GHz speed?

You can try set your 2.4gHz channel width to 40MHZ

Also if you have an android device, download Wifi analyser to see the performance, link speed and congestion.

Remember, your channel must be set to 1, 6 and 11 only

The OP should ask in the networking forum, not the fibre forum, as this has nothing to do with fibre.
