Hi

Can someone please assist me

I had taken a telkom home unlimited 4mb fibre package in October last year.. This is inclusive of my land-line rental.

Earlier this year Telkom discontinued the 4mb, fibre line and increased my subscription minimally and 'upgraded' me to a new package. When I logged on to the customer portal my package reflected as 4-10mb and my FUP was 360 gigs a month.

Recently I have noticed on the customer portal my package reflects as Lite Uncapped 10mps and my total FUP is now 200 gigs.

How did this change? Can they reduce my FUP by 160gigs without even informing me? My invoice for August still says I'm being billed for the 4mb home unlimited package which I initially applied for and at no point did I agree to any other option. Please help!

I would definitely take this up with Telkom as you never applied for the Lite package but the normal package. They're being very sneaky in my opinion as like you said, you've now lost 160GB on your FUP. We are on the same package and I noticed a change with our billing this month so I hope they haven't done the same thing to us. The customer portal is still showing us on Home unlimited 4-10mbps package. Where can you find the FUP details on the portal?

The FUP used to be on the Telkom site previously. Now I cant seem to find it. The only one I can find is the Home Lite Uncapped which is as per what Tetraplex posted

I called the call centre and they have advised that the reason why it reflected as 4-10mb on the portal was because it was 'migrating from March to now' apparently the package is correct and that is what it is called now.

I still think they are pulling a fast one because we got the free upgrade to 10mbps and now they are trying to force people to pay more to take the home unlimited 10mbps package. If you look on their website the home unlimited packages and lite unlimited packages are different. You pay less for the lite ones but the downfall is a smaller fup.

Totally agree. However if the home unlimited 4mb package is discontinued.. Why is it still being advertised till now.

Is there anything we can do about it? I think they are slowly migrating all the 4mb packages to the 10mb lite.

The funny thing is.. I was never close to my FUP. Telkom sneakily gave me 3 months free Netflix and I have being use that since the beginning of the month and that is what used up most of my data.

If we signed a 2 year contract then surely they cannot change the package. Maybe phone them again or email them to fight it. Our package has not been changed to the lite one yet but if it is then I plan on kicking up a huge scene and fighting with them. I know what you mean, I also got the free Netflix. You can limit the video quality on the Netflix so it uses less data if you go to account settings on the website. A 200GB fup is absolutely useless though and will never be enough for us.

I went to the Telkom store.. Which proved to be useless coz they don't know what's going on.. Apparently I am the only person who has complained about the decrease in FUP.

I called the call centre again.. They said 'some people are being migrated from 4mb to 10mb depending on their area and usage' and this is still in progress. This is absolute nonsense coz we are all paying the same subscription.. Why should some ppl be disadvantaged.

Honestly I don't know what to do.. I've left messages on all social media platforms and hello Peter.. I don't know what else to do.

Sorry that does really suck. Did you try sending them a msg on Twitter? I find they take the quickest to respond there but when I say quickest it can take a day or 2. Did you sign a 2 year contract or are you month to month? I have a feeling it could be the month to month people that are being changed over as they shouldn't be able to change packages for people who are on contract. You may have no choice but to change to a higher package. Unlimited Lite 20mbps with FUP of 360GB at R699 (special price for 3 months apparently) or Home Unlimited 10mbps with FUP of around 900GB for R799. Or look at changing to another ISP.....

I am on the 2 year contract. So I can't get out of it. That's the issue.. How can they change my package when I'm on a contract. I entered into the contract last year October.. So it's been a year. I think they want ppl to upgrade.. Thats the catch. I knew it was too good to be true when they upgraded us to the 10mb package free of charge. But they said there will be no other changes.. Which was clearly a lie
