That's for the help. Once last one. I'm going to Telkom after work. What should I say to them, so they know what to look for or what they need to do exactly.

I’m not sure walking into a store will help. This is a decision in their core network and it’s nigh on impossible to get hold of anyone from that team.

I phoned the tech department. The lady I spoke to checked my account and she said that All indicators are green that Im getting fibre but she said the connection is amber and not green, which is from a Vumatel line problem.
She has escalated to management at Vumatel to check in into this. I hope and pray this is the reason. Although she sees this in the day but my problem is at night. She did make a note of my problem on my account though.

Hey Guys

So i am with Webafrica as my ISP but Telkom/Openserve is my FNO, i have no choice as they are the only ones in my area. I too for the last few weeks/months have had the same issue, from around 5pm to around 10pm almost daily my speed goes from 211mb down to around 25mb down, and my latency from around 2ms to 90ms. attached screenshots too

I spoke to webafrica who know nothing about it (conveniently) and nothing has been done, im going to take it up with webafrica again but yes im also suffering

SO images you should see in order, normal speed , normal ping on ping plotter
Notice on the one images the ping slowly climbs, until it gets high and fluctuates

Your increased latency here starts somewhere around hop 6 - doesn't look like an Openserve issue. Happy to give you a test account

They offered to cancel my LTE package if I moved to Fibre. Which was also a lie as I had to pay my contract up in full.
So when this happened you still decided to get fibre with them ? Come on fam

Been having the exact same issue on Telkom/Vumatel in Cape Town. Starts peaking from around 6.30pm to 10.30pm or so. Tried calling and getting to a point where I can maybe get someone technical at Telkom to no avail:)

A buddy on Mweb/Vumatel staying literally around the corner from me has been having no issues during this time. But a friend in a seperate suburb on Telkom/Vumatel has the same problems. So definitely Telkom but I couldn't be bothered trying to fight with them. Luckily on a month to month so should be able to cancel with 30 days notice

And this morning everything is looking good again, see below. What's the verdict on Cool Ideas, especially if doing a lot of online gaming?

Hey OP, you're reporting this issue from Port Elizabeth right? You wouldn't happen to be in the Summerstrand area? Feel free to drop me a DM if you don't feel comfortable confirming this information here.

But I'm more or less in the same boat as you.

Vumatel through Telkom, and like clockwork from 7pm till midnight I cannot use my internet for just about anything.

Ping to anything in EU is around 300+ and spikes all over the place. Locally it's in excess of 150ms-200ms.

This started about a month ago.

I've been through absolute hell and back with Telkom support and there doesn't seem like there's anything they can about it, plus we're locked into a contract.

I have to stop myself from headbutting my desk on a nightly basis. Literally no idea what to do about this.
I'll be following this thread for some solution (hopefully).

Best of luck to you man.

Got two friends on Cool Ideas and they're getting like 170ms to EU during "peak hours".

From a second hand recommendation standpoint, CI is looking pretty damn good.

Yep, I've cancelled with Telkom(please pray for me) and moving to Cool ideas. Doesn't look like just an issue for PE though. Just glad I wasn't on contract.

Throttling doesn't affect latency.
It can, happened to many of us MWEB users back in 2013 when they started to throttle the abusers on uncapped packages.

Could not play BF4 when I was marked as throttled, laggy as sh*t and couldn't do anything unless the status changed to unthrottled.

I thank MWEB for making me jump ship to Afrihost.

This issue is consistent on LTE as well - likely network congestion. Usually between 19:00 and 00:00.

I've got a few smokeping probes which show that the issue is Telkom network related. I have opened a case with Telkom, and shared these with them. The challenge is getting this to the right department.

Apologies its so late. No I'm in Ben Kamma and I'm still having this is problem and all they can say is we will escalate the problem. Yesterday I sent them a message on Twitter to cancel my contract with NO PENALTY FEES. Due to theft. They are not holding their side of the contract, which is false advertising.
I told them to get it done and the only response I want from them is to say my contract has been cancelled. If not I will take it further and contact my lawyers.
This is the worse service I have ever had in my life. Typical of the new South Africa. Employ people with no experience whatsoever, and no passion for what they do.

So just a FYI, switched to CI just over a month ago and haven't had a single problem since. Enough said:)
