Hey there,

I need some info about this 'wireless Telkom'. The actual website doesn't help very much. Apparently you have to use a special phone because of the sim card slot. Will I be able to use a cellphone instead? Also will calling plans like Closer option still be available?

I use one of these phones as my backup phone in my house. The phone looks exactly like the phones that Vodacom supplied to the "community phone providers". It is basically a Huawei that looks like a normal desktop phone with a little antenna instead of a cable to the telkom point. Battery will last about 2 days and then requires a recharge. The phone works in 3G and 2G and you can connect to the phone for 3G data from your computer.

It runs on the 8ta system (Telkom system) and you get the reference of 65502 as the network.

I did already test the sim in my Iphone 3S and it worked perfectly.
