Using Telkom Mobile FreeMe Unlimited month-to-month, SIM Only. Do I pay extra for data when roaming on MTN ? I live in rural Limpopo with no Telkom base stations, I'll be 100% roaming on MTN for several weeks on end. Freeme offers 25Gb per month.

yes, this is what I would like to know. Is the 25Gb data for Telkom base stations only, or is data for roaming with MTN as well ?

I got a couple of sims last week and they told me it was all network. I live in Hermanus and it's only MTN here so I made sure of it.

It seems to be on mtn aswell, but be sure to read the T&C's

The wife uses it and is roaming on MTN most of the time and she hasnt had any hassles

There doesn't seem to be data charge when roaming on MTN because I installed Telkom Mobile app, then menu "Balances" displays an All Networks balance.

I have bad news for you. Roaming costs Telkom too much so it won't last much longer. In fact it was supposed to stop last week. So just a heads up.

Does it really cost that much to roam? Cell c roam on voda...and so does axxess and afrihost on mtn...and axxess is almost half the price of mtn...if not less...

Sounds like BS - when they launched FreeMe, they specifically list 3G MTN roaming as part of the deal (but not LTE)

After the FUP on uncapped LTE I wouldn't be surprised.

Not offering free MTN 3G roaming would lose ALL of the subscribers they have gained because of FreeMe. They don't have the rural coverage and they know it. I'll come bow down and say sorry if they took the MTN roaming away. I say never.

Well, Telkom has to pay MTN a certain amount of cents per MB that TM users consume while on the MTN network. I'll bet TM makes a loss when subscribers live in a zero-Telkom-coverage area and spend 24/7 on MTN.

Since my 5gb Telkom Mobile data ended and I only get 1gb all networks data, my phone has been parked on mtn 24/7. I hate the delay when my phone switched networks, so now I pay TM but only use MTN's network.

My apologies if I am adding to confusion, but getting info from Telkom is a mission.

I have an LTE Telkom Mobile package - unlimited.
One of those deals they were offering just over a year ago.
I can't see on my Telkom account if it is All networks or not.

I will be going to Hermanus for 2 weeks where I will either have to roam on Telkom, or use my MTN phone directly as a data hotspot - and buy about 20GB data.

I don't mind only roaming on 3G, but I don't want a surprise in costs.

Anyone have a solid idea whether I will be able to roam using the Telkom LTE router and no charges - or should I rather buy MTN data for my phone ?

Got led here by search.

What's the latest on this? I've switched my phone to always use MTN- was looking to see if that would be a problem...

Telkom freeme packages roam on MTN, no problem. Alternatively, as you have done, set it to permanently use the MTN network, no problem. But you won't get LTE speeds, just 3G.

Telkom LTE uncapped will not function on any network other than the Telkom network.
