Telkom fixed-line carnage

Telkom's latest annual results show that the company has shed around 184,000 fixed-line subscribers in the past year.

Telkom's fixed-access lines, which include subscribers with copper voice and broadband packages, dropped 23.2% from 793,000 in March 2023 to 609,000 by March 2024.

Pointless article off course people will move on as better technology becomes available and old tech is no longer supported.

They substitute a perfectly working copper POTS phone for a portable one for my 87 year old neighbour. Then tell her that monthly billing is being discontinued and she must buy airtime

Next she finds that this portable phone can only dial Telkom numbers. No mobile phones, no other operators

I took her to Telkom Blue Route. Aggressive, unhelpful lady who said she should read the instructions. There were none. At that she walked off

She (the neighbour) told them they could keep their phone and left it on the counter. I fixed her up with a data package and a Freshphone app and WhatsApp

And they wonder why customers are leaving?

Mom lost her number she’s had for 30 years somehow. No sympathy for these idiots.

Danny boy sure does love contradicting older MyBB articles.

Because mostly they are not supporting copper lines anymore. o_O
Figures are from a few months ago so only a few thousand must be left and it will stabilise now. Their fibre from what I hear is actually sought after. Where they screwed up was not managing it properly and leaving people without alternatives.

Their fibre is not bad it's the pricing that is though.
