About 3 days ago, after being a loyal Telkom subscriber for more than 4 years.... My number was deleted off the Telkom Mobile network without my permission and ported to Mtn. At the very same time I was allocated a different Telkom number, with all my airtime and bundles still active. This alleged port happened without my knowledge or permission.

I contacted the Telkom store and Call centre. The staff then told me that my initial port, which was done 4 years ago was reversed and my number sent to Mtn. I have never had dealings Mtn in my life.

After numerous calls and visits to the Telkom store, nothing has been done. Nobody knows what is going on and everyone is trying to give me the run around. Probably while their fraudsters use my number to access my bank account and other private information.

When I call my "old number", the call is routed to Mtn voicemail.

This is 100% fraudulent. As far as I know, when a number is ported, the sim card is usually cancelled and all unused airtime and bundles forfeited... Strangely enough, I was generously given a different number with all my existing airtime and bundles still active.

Be careful when dealing with this shady company. They are out to scam you.

Hefty penalties should be imposed on the Network providers for each and every case of SIM swop fraud.

It could be one of these thugs but it's strange that Telkom gave you back your data and airtime.

Once your number is ported.. Telkom wont have acces to that number.. have to contact MTN to resolve or port the number back to telkom..

The consultant I'm liaising with claims they are trying to reverse the port.

I've also never had my number active on Mtn. So I'm guessing it would be a nightmare trying to get a sim swop on Mtn

Usually a port reverse request needs to come from the donar network.

Call Telkom port support and have the number that was ported reversed.

Telkom has one nice lets call it perk that you may move your number to and from their network without losing any benefits. So you can port to an existing simcard or contract and keep the benefits or take your number to another network and keep your benefits which means you will just be allocated a new random telkom mobile number. They won't disconnect your sim at all.

The thing is some reason you did not get the port sms because even if someone uses the port with no cli verification like at a MTN store telkom should still send you some sms to confirm that a port has been requested.
