From Business Day:

<snip>
The decisions hold major financial ramifications as the commission has recommended a fine of up to 10% of Telkom's annual revenue, which was R37,6bn in the year ending March 2003. Forfeiting up to R3,7bn would easily wipe out Telkom's 2003 net profit of R1,6bn, to pay for tactics that the commission said had not only stifled the telecommunications sector but had hindered SA's economic development in general.

The problem here is it will turn out to be a protracted legal battle - Telkom are not going hand over that amount of cash without a fight! Who in their right minds would?

The best way to really hurt Telkom is via a campaign that targets their share price....

And we wont see any cut back in pricing as Telkom will need to recoup a big payout like 3Bn. We as consumers or end users wont see any benefits from Telkom paying 3bn. Who gets this 3bn by the way. They should give the 3 bn as low cost incentive loans to VANs operators.

We now have the leverage needed .

so long as the public opinion remain focused.
We can force Telkom to provide better service and price.

We are winning.(nothing is impossible - even in cyber space)
