Hi Guys,

I'm moving into a new place on Friday in the Bryanston/Pineslopes area. I currently have a WRT45GL router which I was using as a simple hub. Is it possible to use this router as an adsl modem?

Furthermore, if that is the case, what is the most efficient (time and money) method of getting an adsl line for me? I have heard that the self-install option comes (ie. you pay for) a modem and variance other devices that I will need.

Thanks

From a quick Google search, the Linksys WRT45GL router has a port for the ADSL line, so it should be okay. Do you know how to configure the router [setting the user name and password is a minimum requirement].

Ordering a ADSL line:
Dial 10219, order the ADSL 384 line, specify self install.
Wait till they've run the tests on the line to determine if the line is ADSL ready.
Agree on an activation date.
Goto a Telkom shop and buy an ADSL splitter [About 60 bucks methinks].
Once teklom have activated the line they will give you a username and password.
Install the splitter between your router so it splits your incoming lint to your telephone and your router.
Plug the Router in to the split part of the line that is marked for the router.
Configure the login and password into the router.
Plug any PC into the router and make sure the default gateway on the PC is the router's ip address.

Done.
Teklom do not charge you for a modem and other devices if you do a self install.
At each and every opportunity verify with teklom that it is a self install. They tend to forget.
Do not let the techie into your house .. once you do that it's a callout.
