Next 30 sec

Most LCR companies would be using the talk 1000 type contracts which are indeed cheaper on network compared to Telkom

I know Telkom Sucks - but I am referring to home users and not Corporate Companies, Some one told me that It was cheaper to use your cell phone if you are calling to another cell phne, so I did a bit of research and found that was not the case.

In fact I think it sucks even more that it is still cheaper to phone someone form a land line to a cell phone. Surly Cell phone companies are ripping people off - can't they reduce rates to better Telkom?

1) You have your peak and off peak times the wrong way round

2) You didn't include VirginMobile

? Since I see not scathing posts about the innacuracy of your figures I presume they are correct.

That is amazing, how can it be cheaper to phone a Vodacom cellphone from a Telkom line than it is to phone Vodacom to Vodacom?

I need to change my dialling habits. Great more money for telkom. Joy

I hate Telkom but I'm not going to punish myself for their bad practices.

That's just it, don't shoot the messenger, I’m just trying to save you guys money. I hate Telkom just as much as any one else, but we have to make use of what saves us money - If you don't have a land line yet save your self the trouble as you will spend more money on therapy and anger management due to the frustration of the Telkom service, but if you have a line installed it will save you money...

Your conclusion is not totally correct:

For offpeak calls telkom is more expensive than any of the mobile networks at R1.17pm. For peak calls telkom is cheaper for calls other than within network calls for the contracts that you listed.

He's also not taking into account "free minutes" etc.

You right:)

However because of the many options available it is very difficult to compare rates between the various service providers. I think they purposefully work out schemes to make it difficult to compare.:(

Your mistake is comparing telkoms charge for 30s with the other networks rate for 60s

Probably, especially now with MNP. Don't think there's one best package anyway ,you just have to see what suits your personal needs best.

I agree with you. Our learned friend should have read the fine print and compare apples with apples, not 30seconds charges to 60 second charges........

on paper telkom might be cheaper, but telkom doesnt have per second billing

ie if i'm on say vodacom and ur on telkom, and we both make 30 20second calls to a vodacom number during peak, i woulda paid 21bucks, whereas u woulda paid 56bucks, or 10bucks vs 35bucks during off peak.

no thanx

Unless of course you subscribe to telkoms new closer 3-5 plans - then calls to mobile phones are charged on a per second basis with no minimum charge:)
