Telkom, ISPs and uncapped ADSL bandwidth

The only remedy for this entire situation is for ICASA to toss the existing ADSL Regulations in the dustbin and start from scratch

Assuming they actually want regulations that will benifit the comsumers. Honestly, I can't think of anything ICASA has done well. Almost as if someone is accepting bribes to add loopholes, either that or they are really stupid.

It's still pretty sad that after 2 years all we get is a useless SLA, no benfit with local bandwidth and nothing wrt shaping. All simply side-stepped by Telkom.

Time to re-write the regulations, wait another 2 years and see if we get a GB or two from Telkom.

ICASA needs to be very heavily criticised in national news for completely failing to regulate or have any impact on the telecommunications in this country.

Telkom says they'll do something when they damn well feel like it and ICASA sits back and waits.

I'm sorry but I find it hard to believe that someone isn't being payed off.

everyone can fight, but at the end of the day , we are the pilliks paying, why dont we have a say in it.there service sucks, there speeds are crap, and it the most expensive you get.

SA we love you.

and google.co.za is not hosted local you muppet.thats why you cant get in to it when capped.

that is the point he is making, people who dont know better will call support "google is not working" and tie up the support team

ok so if i read right

its state's uncapped local that you pay for when u reach the cap?

im confused, will this be a per gig charge?

how does uncapped get capped? also how can u charge per gig on an uncapped account?

Quite simple.

It's a capped uncapped pay-for-demand free service.

Its TELKOM!

Like I said! you gonna hit 2Gb/s and then pay for whay you use localy... Telkom

Come on FFS! waiting 2 years for uncapped local and now they just going to make it worst ?! How long is this going to go on? Telkom is not goverment own. It is a business. There must be a way to close them down for good ? Put the sick animal to "rest".

@ RPM. Any idea as to the cost of the local bandwidth after reaching your cap?

It has to be at a local only rate which is far cheeper than your normal per gig cap.

From what I understand your normal Capped account consists of both local and international usage costed at a price that takes both local costs and international costs into account. Once this CAP is reached and you are switched to local only (uncapped but charged for usage afterwards), the local usage, after the CAP is enforced, should be charged at local only rates.

I am cetain that your ISP will be able to shed more light on this... :)

Because drunkard could have done a better job writing those ADSL regulations on a cocktail napkin during a binge session.

Local is free but you have to pay for it?! surely they can get nailed for saying that? bloody idiots!

JOKE for the day!!!

Telkom: “It is recommended that service providers allow local only access to continue even after the blended CAP was consumed by the customer. It is the most cost effective solution from both a customer and service provider’s perspective. Local access to content can therefore be ensured even after the blended CAP was reached; therefore local usage will no longer subject to the CAP,”

JOKE of the day!!! :D:D:D

Maybe, but an even better solution would be to toss ICASA over a bridge. Then tell Telkom if they don't get their act together they're next.

Simply put Telkom's argument is illogical. Not being capped means that after paying a fixed amount for a service, once the bandwidth for that service is exhausted then the person will be allowed local access without any extra charges. If the person refuses to pay any more money then they are capped which they cannot be according to the regulations. You don't need to be a lawyer to clarify that.

What is it they don't understand? All we have ever asked for is that if, for example, we are allocated 3 gigs of data, those 3 gigs will be allocated to international leaving our local uncapped and not counting towards our 3 gigs. Is that too hard to understand on Telkom's and ICASA's side?

Now they come up with all this capped, uncapped local mumbo jumbo!

Someone should actually draft a set of regulations and hand it to ICASA! Get everyone on the forum to contribute and give their say!
