Telkom jobs bloodbath even worse than first believed

The Federation of Unions of South Africa (FEDUSA) has highlighted that overall job cuts at Telkom in 2020 could be around 6,000 - a large portion of the company's 15,197 employees, and nearly double what was originally indicated.

Telkom started its consultation process with organised labour today as part of the section 189 process which will see the company retrench thousands of workers.

What a pathetic response on TV this morning from the Telkom Spokesperson.
It is all technology's fault. Even after being caught out with various contradictory statements - its all technology's fault.

So 4000 Telkom jobs and 2000 BCX jobs.

"a large portion of the company’s 15,197 employees"
Do those 15200 jobs include BCX and other subsidiaries?

Didnt you know by now, it's always someone else's fault........

She basically saying that these employees are redundant, speaking anecdotely the copper lines in my area have been decommissioned for over a year now but I frequently see a Openserve Bakkie parked next to it with the driver fast asleep.

And the spokeswoman could not make up her mind on the employee count either. One minute it was 16 000, then 9 000. And then when challenged on what the first round meant she backpedalled when asked if there is a first-round then there must be a second round at which she claimed ignorance about the second round

Telkom is to blame since they are cutting over fixed line customers to FLL services, thats why there is a decline. That is the reason for decline in customer base. Telkom had the monopoly on voice services and still they messed it up.

Nonsense. The overall shrinking of the South African economy, by-large due to the shenanigans of the ANC, is to blame.

They could not even do that properly, many customers canceled instead of switching over because of the pathetic way in which the migration was handled.

In the last six months, the company lost a record 299,000 fixed-line subscribers, which means it is now losing around 50,000 subscribers each month.

It's like the natural decline was not good enough for them, they had to make sure they chase as many as they can away.

For many customers, like myself, there literally is no way to do such a forced downgrade "properly". No wireless solution Telkom will ever come up with can compete with the ping of a fixed line, period.

I've been lazy to switch to fibre which is already on my property, just not connected, but the millisecond Telkom wants to downgrade my VDSL connection to some bullshyte wireless it is bye-bye Telkom, hello fibre.

you don't mind paying the telkom tax? seems like a no brainer to move to fibre, faster upload, better ping and cheaper.
