Mine works. You must call the prepaidfone call centre on 0800 115 357. To get it activated you must have at least R140 in prepaidfone vouchers ready (you can't buy R120) to get Waya-Waya activated.

I was just wondering, what if one has a prepaid line and apply through an ISP for ADSL and not mention the fact that the analog line is prepaid?

You try it then let us know;)

Ok, my friends phone line is not in his name, still in previous owners name, now they don't want to make the change. Previous owner must cancel line first and he must re-apply. Now that is so typical Telkom. What if one can't locate previous owner?

Its just like my own line, previous owner gave address wrong (Its a farm) and now they say they can't change address, their system don't allow it. So I let them take my name out of the book, cause I'd rather be not listed than having the wrong address printed there.

From the Neotel media speak, I believe they will offer cost effective solutions for voice and data combined.

Looking forward to something like voice + 64kbs data at R20 pm

Dirt cheap reliable 64kbs would suit my folks and many others very well - it will retrieve and deliver email.

LOL!
So why do you rent the phone?
Just use a cell?

Because it costs others more to call you on a cell phone number than a land line number when calling from another landline number, unless you take advantage of the "YOU-CAN-TALK-FOR-FREE-ON-WEEKENDS" Cell C promo;)

 Never, and I don't even use Cell C. The ad on tv is so irritating that I feel like strangling that lady.

I placed an order for the R250 service. Had to pay the amount at Pep or the Telkom shop. Then I had to phone them with the receipt number. The friendly lady told me because I payed at a Telkom shop the money will only be reflected on the system in 24 hours. If I payed at Pep it would have been immediate. LOL!

I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take it any more

Well I suppose this should really be called Telkom Launches R 120,00 a year service, or R 10,00 a month. Which brings us to an very interesting point in so much as it seems to Justify ELIAC's claim a few years back, that the true cost of a fixed line service is about R 7,00 a month - and that Telkom were making a roaring profit just from the line rental charge alone, the fact that they are then charging extra for calls is were their out and out profits come from

No ways are Telkom going to provide a service at below cost, so now the game is up, they have at last played their hand

This should have been done years ago, then all the people that got new services would not have been disconnected, how many millions were wasted in providing that service, which is hardly being used now - How many Millions were paid to the so called Experts for the mess we have today - Also even if Telkom are not making a lot of money out of the low budget customers, they will still make a bit (most certainly not a loss) out of the people that phone them

How does this then justify the increase in line rental Telkom have just put through, are they cross subsidising? It does not seem fair to me that someone should pay R 112,00 a month which is over R 3,60 a day, every day, when someone can make a call from a call box for much the same price, and I am sure the cost of the call box is not cheap, and cost a lot to maintain, who is paying for that?

I think that people need to take a page out of the film Network, open their windows and shout out, I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take it any more

Also I know someone that went on this service and Telkom had to give them their R 700,00 deposit back... so they were very happy about that and can now put that toward getting a Cellphone and do their internet that way

If I could have adsl as an add-on to this I'd switch tomorrow.

@ bwana - most of us need prepaid adsl, which'll be a great idea for those of us with budget constraints.

Then I'll also switch - but for now I'll treat it as highly suspect until proven otherwise.

It's so stupid... being forced to use a service you don't use.

No doub't they don't want to discontinue this kind of service... ... as it means easy money for them...
