Telkom looking to buy Cell C: report

"Report" as in rumour?

Icasa and the competitions commission will definitely have something to say about this

I'm not normally a big fan of consolidation, but both Telkom and Cell C seem to have floundered with their mobile strategy. Maybe together they can put some kind of dent into Vodacom/MTN.

It shouldn't be allowed.

Why not? Since Cell C raised their prices to be more in line with Vodacom and MTN, their reason for existence has disappeared. Why would anyone use them when you can pay similar amounts on a superior network?

Telkom Mobile has been making decent inroads, and if a Cell C acquisition makes them more competitive then that's fine by me.

When Orange audited, Cell C shareholders were looking closer to $2 billion.

Either Cell C's balance sheet went deeply south (it was already sustainable only with Oger Telecom injection), either Oger got tired of bankrolling it and is just looking at cutting the losses.

Telkom have certainly not floundered their mobile strategy.

This deal can be good for both companies, for them to be a threat to Voda and MTN they need to merge into one entity.

13 Billion?

What CELL C finance sheet did telkom look at?

I would like that .My experience of Telkom is that when Telkom is offline ,network on Vodacom, MTN, and Cellc is also limited .That's why I thing ,every body shares with Telkom then this will be good for Cellc

Telkom said : Come see here - Cell C - we will buy your shares and we can become: CTelkom (See Telkom always wins) , but Cell C said: Haaibo ! Pay us 2 Billion $ and you can call yourselves : "Telkom-C" ........ (See we always get what we want) :crylaugh::D:crylaugh:

1. Cell C Giga packages prices are still the best.
2. If Telkom takes over Cell C, it would became equal to Vodacom and MTN, so prices will increase very soon. Cell C is the only guardian for low prices.

I think it will be a good thing for the industry, Cell C has great value to Telkom just like Telkom has great value to the market if they both actually played to their strengths.

Take Telkom, until fibre all ADSL clients had a landline as a byproduct. Calls between Landline and telkom mobile are technically on net. This gives them an amazing advantage as they could make the landline/cell one unit and leverage existing clients.

Cell C has a well developed VMO section called VMX which allows for VMO's to be run off the Cell C backbone. If you create Celkom with a greater market share, improved network reach they could compete with Vodacom and take it to MTN at this their darkest hour. MTN is fighting an African fight and trying to get back their SA business and they not prepared for a merger like this. The time is now for the small guys to make a play, if not they will never get there.
