Hi.
I wanted to take up an offering from Telkom on their "Smart Broadband Wireless" offerings, and when I called Telkom (after the most excruciating convo ever) the agent told me that my farm, where I want access, is not covered by LTE so it would not work... I fail to understand his logic but being a cabinet maker and not an IT ninja, I thought I should ask the ninjas... Will an LTE sim give me internet access if I only have a 3G signal?

Thx

Just to clarify: normal SIM, with LTE "activated"? It should work fine using 3G.

Yes it would. It would even roam on MTN at HSDPA+ speeds as well I think...

Yes, you can roam on MTN. however the data usage is not covered by your smart broadband cap; you'll need to purchase additional "All networks" bundles to roam.

To OP's question, you can even use 2G if you so wish. Theres no restriction on network type (apart from what the router's capable of, of course)

Why don't you check the Telkom Coverage Map to see how far out (roughly) you are from the closest area which is covered by Telkom LTE?

If you're not too far out or can find a Telkom LTE base station, you could easily get connected using a Poynting Antenna like an XPOL006 with the correct installation/alignment.

Our offices are not in an LTE covered area yet I can almost see the tower from our offices +-2 km away. I put up one of these antenna's and we've got a fairly stable connection with ave dl speedtest (local) of 20mbps and 8mbps up.
