Anyone here on Telkom LTE? Recently my speed has dropped from 30-50mbs to if I'm luck 7 - 20mbs.

Last night tested all my equipment and suspected that my Poynting Dual Polarised High Gain LTE Antenna may be defective. After testing, it wasn't, but what i did discover is that using my bunny ear aerials gets me better up and down then my R1000 bucks booster which was working fine till recently.

I am going to try and roll back my Huawei B315s router tonight to see if there is a difference.

Is there anyone that knows anything about this? and why my booster wouldn't work anymore on new update?

The only 2 things i can think of is:
The software update on router somehow made my Antenna absolute
Telkom changed something that made the Antenna absolute

Did you check the settings perhaps it changed which port to use either auto on for antenna or auto on for internal?

Yes checked setting, played around with it, the works still the same

pointed antenna to different locations with no win, my friend in edenvale has the same where the antenna has no effect, he also gets better signal just using the rabbit ears that comes with the router

my router has 4 bars of signal now but i used to get 50mb on 3 bars

Telkom recently activated the 1800MHZ band which isnt really great. You may be connected to an antenna sector that is 1800MHZ instead of the 2300MHZ. Also, I noticed that my speeds were very bad after the software update despite having very good signal readings. Rolling back to factory defaults solved the problem for me.

Having a similar problem. I was using an XPOL-6 external antenna and the signal quality dropped dramatically during the last few days. I also now get a better signal without the antenna, or with an XPOL-2 that connects to a different tower.

I am wondering if the 2300Mhz signal on some towers has been negatively affected by Telkom turning on LTE for 1800MHz?

i will reset my router tonight and see what happens.

how do i see the mhz of the signal, i found a huawei testing software which i will also be trying to figure out tonight.

i have asked the manufactures of the antenna and they have no idea whats going on...

logically this doesn't make sense how can the bunny ears get a better signal than the antenna

Okay im annoyed now. Since this weekend the tower I connect to seems to have disappeared
Really tried everything. Moved the antenna on the roof. Took modem around house and played with the bunny antennas. Factory reset.
Gone from 4 bars down to 2 bars. 40mb to 6mb. Any advice would be welcome..

The antenna is absolutely useless now, i will be testing with a capped sim and a older version of the router i have to see if the account is capped or is it because of the routers software.

If this doesnt work it means its telkom!

WTF

RSRP: -99dBm
SINR: 0dB

The external ant. went from 4 bars to 2 bars, replaced the bunny ears and still on 2 bars but from 10mbs to 25mbs+-

I finally discovered how to force set the network band on the B315 using the toolbox.

go to /api/net/net-mode

replace

<request>
<NetworkMode>03</NetworkMode>
<NetworkBand>3FFFFFFF</NetworkBand>
<LTEBand>7FFFFFFFFFFFFFFF</LTEBand>
</request>

with

<request>
<NetworkMode>03</NetworkMode>
<NetworkBand>8000000000</NetworkBand>
<LTEBand>8000000000</LTEBand>
</request>

and write to API

Your modem will connect only to 2300MHz base stations.

Thank you! Saved me days of frustration having to try explain this to Telkom support :) Only problem now - I need two LTE routers as the 1800Mhz band gives an awesome upload speed of 10Mbps vs the 3 or 4 I get from 2300Mhz :/
Also - latency is on 1800 is 10ms less than latency on the 2300Mhz band :/
