Telkom LTE Speed Problems dropped from 50mbs to 8mbs

Seems I'm experiencing this as well on my Huawei B593s-601 on Uncapped LTE. It's not on-peak congestion degradation (I've had that before) since it's constant.

Signal bars went up (5 bars from 4!), latency plumeted (30ms to 13ms) and upstream performance increased 30% (6Mbps to 9Mbps).
Sounds good... Except for download performance.

It's now 20Mbps, 24 hours a day, down from 80Mbps (off peak) and 65Mbps (on peak). This is as of 2 days ago.

25% of its former glory. I'm looking forward to Fibre being installed in my area (they're doing it at present :)

I'm feeling a bit like a Telkom experiment at the moment ;-)

Anyone know how to force the network band on a B593s-601?

Got home today, saw my router was still on 5 bars. Still the same speed results...

Gave it a reboot (tried yesterday as well) - and it's down to 4 bars! Presumably swapped back to the old band.

Here're the results now. 4 bars:

And on 5 bars:

Hope it stays on this band! Telkom should perhaps let users decide on their web portal...

I finally discovered how to force set the network band on the B315 using the toolbox.

go to /api/net/net-mode

replace

<request>
<NetworkMode>03</NetworkMode>
<NetworkBand>3FFFFFFF</NetworkBand>
<LTEBand>7FFFFFFFFFFFFFFF</LTEBand>
</request>

with

<request>
<NetworkMode>03</NetworkMode>
<NetworkBand>8000000000</NetworkBand>
<LTEBand>8000000000</LTEBand>
</request>

and write to API

Your modem will connect only to 2300MHz base stations.

@digitalp Do you have a download link for the "toolbox", not sure if I'm missing something, but can't seem to find a way to make the changes above...

The tower I connect to seems to have died, Pretoria east: 4189185. Telkom told me to restart router which did nothing :/

How long has it been "dead"?

If it started today, maybe they are busy upgrading it? :p

Does anyone here know how to get the ID of a specific tower? My tower went "dead" today and I am connecting to a tower way further away and I get like 1 bar, so the speed is terrible. But I want to report this and have no idea how to get the ID of the tower close to my house?

I'm guesssing

<request>
<NetworkMode>03</NetworkMode>
<NetworkBand>4</NetworkBand>
<LTEBand>4</LTEBand>
</request>

Forces 1800mhz?

I'm having this exact issue again over the last few days. 5 bars = poor performance, 4 bars = good performance. A few reboots and the router will usually revert to the 4-bar cell.

There's only one physical tower in my vicinity (and my external antenna points to it), so I don't think it's connecting to another tower; rather a different band on the same tower.

Does anyone know how to force it to connect only on the 2300MHz band, on the older B593s-601 router?
