TELKOM LTE Tquestion

At home I'm currently getting around 15Mbps download speed using Telkom's LTE sim on my phone (two bars max). What are the chances of doubling/tripling that speed if I were to get a router with antennas similar to that of Huawei's B315 line up?

15Mbp is pretty low. I damn sure you would double your speed with a router. You would probably have to play around with the placement of the unit though.

My thoughts exactly and after a little research I think the Huawei B315 is a good one. What would be the best minimum speed on a laptop to stream Netflix/Showmax/DSTV now/random sites using chrome without buffering in 720p?

B315 is good... latest firmware will allow you to force 2300mMhz..

A few things:

The wifi on the B315 is rubbish- I would suggest using a decent access point with this
If you get an antenna, make sure you set the router to use external 1&2
If you get a directional antenna (EG: Poynting XPOL-0006), it's worth spending the time on the roof to get the router stats as good as possible and then secure the bolts to keep it that way.. try see where you nearest TM Base Station is- point the antenna in that direction and adjust it till they're good.

I can confirm what marlin178 says about the wifi, it is pretty weak and I also added an AP to it.

Directional antennas seem pricey. And I don't think I can afford to go over 2k on hardware right now.

That is indeed. I get up to 50Mbit with my Galaxy S5. I wonder what I would get with a proper router.

Try to get hold of Telkom B315.
Connect a Windows laptop to it with a lan cable.
Down ltewatch_h to the laptop.
move the b315 around in the place you want use it.
Monitor the signal quality with ltewatch_h like this
LTEWatchH.jpg
When you find a spot with the best signal quality do a speed test

If you opt to just get the B315, in settings, rather select the internal antenna over the ice cream stick antennas that it comes with...
You could always get creative and put the B315 in a weatherproof enclosure and leave it outside, then use an Ethernet cable to bring a connection into your home.

Is there an alternative router besides the B315 that costs under 1,5k?

1.5k per month or 1.5k for a device ?

I was thinking 1,5k for a device and get a FreeMe sim only deal for the Telkom Lit promotion.

Best way is to borrow a Telkom b315 and test with it. Or if you have R249 pm go for this deal https://secure.telkom.co.za/today/shop/home/plan/smartbroadband-wireless-variation/ and add the 500GB for R50 Night Surfer. For 720p streaming on Youtube I have used my ipad with a Telkom prepaid sim and speed tests I did were about 22Mb/s.

I've got the 20GB+20GB B315 deal on contract in July and don't need it anymore (fibre installed) ... now I just need somebody willing to take over my contract for R300/month. Speeds are amazing on it.
