Hey Guys

I have had Telkom LTE with a wifi router (Huawei B 593) for 2 years now. Just recently a week or 2 ago I noticed that my usual 5 bars LTE signal has dropped to 3 bars. I have 2 Poynting antenna's outside pointing to the Telkom signal.

Why woud I always have had 5 bars LTE and now only 3 bars? I have tried rotating the antenna's slightly either direction but no change.

Why why why?

Thanks

It's called Cell Saturation, the tower is probably getting more busier and more people connecting to it, the signal will start to fade

I thought I was imagining things ... mine went from 4 bars to 2 bars at best.

So what can be done to improve signal?

I went from 3 bars to 1 and this is with an external antenna - my service is pretty much unusable atm.

So it's not just me. Why is this happening? How do we get someone from Telkom to respond here?

Can anyone help please?

Thanks

This is strange, about a week ago I started noticing the exact same thing. I used to get an SNR of 30dB+ and then about a week ago I started noticing I was no longer getting this, where I used to get 70 - 80Mbps I now get like 30 - 40Mbps. Keep in mind I am like 30 meters straight line distance from the tower.

Strange thing is that this only happened on the 2300MHz band, the 1800MHz band seems unaffected and still runs as always. Contacted a very clued up human in Telkom and he said it could be RF fluctuations or just cell saturation as more people are climbing on the tower. So lame.

So anyways, I guess short of them upgrading the infrastructure, there is not much we can do?

Also out on the East Rand, I have a call open for almost 2 months now, last week they told me to wait for some one to come out. Currently I am lucky if I can get 1.5mbps on LTE, most of the time there is nothing.

Force a technician to come out to your house by logging a call. Then say you want to commend them and would like their bosses number. Then speak directly to that person. I did that when I was having problems. Turns out the boss of the tech works for OpenServ and as a result he is amazing at his job. When I have issues on my tower and I contact him, I get it resolved within the same business day. Problem is that most of Telkom is utter incompetence and they have no idea what is going on. Get to the correct person that actually deals with keeping the towers up (which is not Telkom by the way, since they do not own any of the towers), then you will have far more joy. If you were in my area I would give you my guys details, but he only does my area.

I am, a senior manage in Telkom is contacting me in a bit to chat about this. Will give feedback here on the issue once I have spoken to him.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who has noticed a considerable drop in reception and performance, these last couple of days.

Hi Guys,

I'm having the same problem but only at peak periods were my DL speed drop to 4MB. I have external antenna with -70 signal and 16SINR. I have 2 weeks to return the Antenna... I also logged a call and they said Telkom will get someone out... Still waiting. If I knew this I would not sign that 24 month contract. Don't know if I have the right to cancel as I logged my first call within the 8 day cooldown period and they said I must get a antenna...

Just to add I'm located in Centurion...

I have a e5186 ( I think ) lte A router, I used to get around 20 Mbps during peak times 6 to 12 pm and 50/60 Mbps at night with a ping of around 50 ms
About two weeks ago I started experiencing extremely low speeds of around 1 Mbps during peak time and 4 Mbps at night with a ping of around 100 ms
I live in Bedford view, no external antennas
Thanks Telkom

What is your SNR during non peak periods?
