Hi,
I have got 8ta 10 gig contract today and i tried speedtest few times.
I am in Midrand.
when ever i try to do a speedtest with Telkom Sa server in Rosebank, I only get around 1 Mbps upload and download.
If i try with any other speed test server. i get minimum of 3 Mbps download and 2 Mbps upload.
Is there a problem with Telkom SA server in Rose bank?

Just got internet promo 5 contract after 8ta coverage indicated my area is covered.

With new modem, i was lucky to get 1 bar on network.....speeds worse than adsl 384. speedtest.net showed upload speeds were faster than download....lucky i haven't cancelled my adsl and CPA will allow me cancel contract if 8ta can't fix situation. :(((((((

Prepaid roamimg on MTN had much higher sppeds.

Latest test on my iPad with the 8ta 10GB package in Randburg, just up the road from Cresta.

Download Speed: 0.31 Mbps
Upload Speed: 0.04 Mbps
Latency: 380 ms

Absolutely shocking.

I had a technician from 8ta come out on Monday this week to my office in Illovo, Sandton. It took him 5mins on his device just to load the speed test page. Results were just as bad with his 5Mb modem with 0.6Mb download and 0.04 Mb upload. Signal strength was -96 dbm

He said it would be logged with the network guys. Still haven't heard anything from them. He also mentioned that unless he gets call/complaints logged they will not do anything about improving the service in the areas. He also mentioned that the promo packages don't allow access/roaming to the MTN data/3G network which would give you better signal and speeds.

I've been running speed test all around JHB and only have had a maximum download speed of 1.6Mb/s. This is not what the 8ta network promised.

mobile_user, check your signal strength? i've managed to narrow the problem down by myself. Zero bars majority of the time, occasionally one bar and rarely if i'm lucky i get to see 2 bars for a few seconds. Still get Edge speeds...Speeds on MTN(R) for prepaid are >1Mbps.

My first 7 days of the contract ends on Sunday, the earliest the technician can come is Monday, 7day after complaint lodged, time permitting of course. This is after the call center referred my problem to another province initially. I guess this is my fault -maybe all char ou's/indians are in KZN.

To cancel contract or not to cancel contract?....that is the question. I didn't know there is something worse than Telkom.

Cancel because the thieves at 8ta conveniently forget that on this very forum and their very website they said the termination fee would be fixed at R800 and now claim whatever they feel like. It is infuriating and frustrating dealing with them. I hope the consumer council fines them the maximum possible (I believe 10% of turnover).

Very friendly technician, who knows his stuff, arrived and confirmed my findings that signal strength and speeds not adequte....submitted my contract cancellation (even though tech tried to persuame me to wait for network response to fix the strength)....hope this is promptly processed. i will definately re-apply once they sort out the signal strength issue....mainly because of the 10g value proposition, the tech and "8ta", on the this forum. Till we meet again.
