Telkom Mobile data roaming on Vodacom problem

I recently purchased a Telkom FreeMe bundle, which works well on the Telkom network. However, when I start to roam on Vodacom (Telkom-R) data becomes unusable. It is typically on Edge with little to no throughput. Calling works fine, just not data roaming.

Anyone else experiencing this problem?
 
Yes, I've turned off roaming for this reason. Luckily Telkom's coverage is very good. :)
 
Had it last year, switched to FNB who also roam in Vodacom and it's the same.
 
I have a Telkom prepaid phone SIM card in a dual-Sim smartphone. Phone calls and SMS are OK. However, I seem to be in a Telkom roaming area, and any data on the Telkom only network does not work. This is despite the availablity map on the Telkom website showing I can get Telkom anything in my area. So, Monice data options on the Telkom only network don't work for me. Telkom fixed LTE will not work for me either, whether 24-month contract, month to month through another ISP, or prepaid.
 
Mine is annoying too:

I have a prepaid lte sim in sim2 on my mate 20 pro. If it loses even a little reception it immediately wants to roam on Telkom-R

But roaming is disabled on sim2, and I configure the fone not to use auto carrier select, and specifically select telkom 4G. But it doesn't take and, whoops, on Telkom-R again.

I get a SMS that tells my Internet is paused, and it tries to take me to their prepaid reload page.

The manual carrier selection doesn't seem to work well on my phone, or the telkom network is instructing my phone somehow to roam rather.

Frustrating
