Telkom Mobile: Free Wi-Fi for everyone

Completely useless unless you happen to be in the one of very few areas where there is a Telkom wifi hotspot.

So I can go sit at Admirals Galley Restaurant in Walmer and use their wifi for free?
And what? I just drink water while I'm there and they'll be alright with that?
Not quite.

Plus you have to send some SMS to get a voucher code, so they will probably limit your sms's and bombard you with spam afterwards.

Never look a gift horse in the mouth. Sheesh it amazes me how people have a gall to complain about getting something for free.

Personally I will keep the info and if and when I find myself in one of these hotspots (there are quite a few around me) I will utilise it.
The real purpose of the promotion is to create awareness around the locations of these hotspots.

Its great for those who can use it. If you cant, be happy and move on.

Shouldn't it be available at all Telkom Direct shops?

As anecdotal evidence, and so far only at one site, it turns out that the send sms/get login+pass codes system works from a Vodacom number but failes on Virgin (therefore Cell C network). So far unknown is what would happen on MTN.

Nope - or at least not yet, and I've been ..exposed.. :erm: for a couple of weeks now; and so far, nary a peep.

Where are the hotspots?

^ As SSB indicates, look around; there seem to be ...a few.

I can't answer that, but in at least one case, there would be about nothing that could be done to stop you from sucking bits down here - just don't go into the actual shop ..although you would be quite a lot more comfortable if you did.

i gave this a bash laat week when i was in hillcrest (kzn). parked off at mcdonalds, had a cappuccino, updated all my android apps (+-150mb), downloaded the newest slimrom build and its google apps.

worked like a charm.

For EVERYONE, while the hotspots giving "delivery" are few and far between ... , unlimited now equals 60 minutes?

Wonderful ...

:)

The ability to moan and complain seems to be uncapped too. :)
