thought about going with Telkom Mobile? think again. what a complete nightmare they are.
I purchased, or thought I did, a Telkom Mobile device and package. On the 4th. The sales agent, Leigh-Shaun Brown, assured me of the following:
1. The contract approval would proceed the same day.
2. The device would be delivered to me.
2. The area had coverage,
3. I would be contacted to arrange delivery, at a time convenient to me, the next day.
4. In the event of any failure of connectivity, I could return the device, in terms of the Consumer Protection Act's "cooling off" period.
Gather around. This is what actually happened.
1. The contract was approved, after I followed up and questioned progress.
2. When I requested details of the contract, I was forwarded an order screen, copied and pasted into an email.
3. The connectivity package on the order was wrong.
4. When I notified the agent that it was wrong, he assured me me it would be fixed.
5. I was never sent a fixed order confirmation.
6. I was not called.
7. When I followed up again, I was told I would definitely be called.
8. I was called two days later by a woman who didn't identify herself, saying she wanted to deliver a "Cell C" package.
9. When I told her that I had not purchased a Cell C package, she put the phone down on me and I was never called again.
10. When I followed up, I was told it was an error in the queue, and that I would definitely be called to arrange delivery.
11. I was never called to arrange delivery. In fact I was never called again.
12. Day three. I followed up again. The sales agent simply stopped replying to my emails.
13. I escalated the matter earlier this week. I got no feedback.
14. I lodged a Hello Peter complaint today, and tweeted it. I got a missed call from Thatayaone Leboko, from the "Social Media" department.
15. When I called the number back, an automated message said "this Call Center is not available".
16. The number on Thatayaone's email signature does not work.
17. When I did get hold of him (mail, then cell) he told me that Telkom would be sending a technician to "check the coverage" in that area and only then would they consider honoring the contract.
(If you see above, you might remember that coverage was checked at sale stage, and found to be good.)
We're 7 days into a 4-day process, and not only do I still have no device, no contract, no connectivity, and no answers, every one of the desperately few interactions I have had has been bungled as much as possible.
I still have no proposed delivery date, either. I'm not even sure anyone at Telkom knows what I ordered.
What a complete and utter joke. I really should have learned by now, not to even consider them.
